Arizona And Kentucky Men Sustained Severe Injuries In E-Cig Explosions, Prompts Future E-Cigarette Lawsuit Cases

July 03, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on claims made by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) that there have been in excess of 25 e-cigarette explosions since 2008 when the devices first appeared on the market. It is estimated this number is probably much lower than the true number of explosions due to underreporting of such occurrences.

FEMA has also determined that a high percentage of e-cig explosions, almost 80 percent, have occurred while the devices were charging. The explosions are precipitated when the internal pressure of the battery cannot be contained, and thus is released through the end of the battery containing the seal. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will be re-evaluating its regulatory policies related to e-cigarettes in hopes of decreasing the number of explosions in the future.

A recent explosion occurred while an Arizona man was driving. He was injured by 2 burning e-cigarettes in his pocket which resulted in serious burns to his hands, and legs. The victim stated that he was horrified as the flames spread down his leg and as he tried to put the fire out he burned his hands. Treatment was administered to him at a local, nearby hospital. He stated that the episode was very disconcerting to him, as he knew many others that used e-cigarettes and he was unnerved seeing the type of damage the devices could cause.

A similar explosion occurred in Kentucky when an e-cigarette exploded in a man’s pocket. He suffered third-degree burns and required intensive treatment for the injuries he suffered.
