Black Hearts Tattoo Club, opens up in Greenpoint, Brooklyn

Greenpoint is one of the most famous neighborhoods in Brooklyn, famed for its bustling streets and numerous local shops. Amongst the many businesses found here, tattoo shops have thrived. In fact, this area is known for some of the best tattoo places in the whole of New York City. At the start of 2021, a new shop joined the ranks of tattoo parlors here, promising to offer something completely different. Black Hearts Tattoo Club burst onto the scene, providing a totally unique tattooing experience – and it has thrived ever since. 

Bringing modern style & community vibes to the tattoo scene

Most of the tattoo shops in Greenpoint will follow a very traditional style. They’re exactly what you’d expect if you booked a tattoo and went down to get it. This is where Black Hearts Tattoo Club really stands out. 

Instead of the typical grungy interiors you usually see, this store is completely modern and chic. It follows a minimalist design scheme that’s not too dissimilar from luxury fashion stores. 

The owners are also keen to develop the shop into a community for artists and tattoo enthusiasts in Brooklyn. Black Hearts Club really takes care of its clients and treats them like friends, offering comfortable couches to sit on and premium coffee to drink while they wait. There’s often a roughness or intimidating feeling in more traditional shops, but this isn’t present here at all. This shop is all about opening up the tattoo community and making a space for everyone. It aims to be a place that provides a luxury experience, yet anyone is welcome to stop by regardless of whether they have an appointment. 

This is where the name of the shop comes from – it’s called a ‘club’ because the owners genuinely want people to feel part of it. The barrier between artist and client is broken down, creating a safe space for people to come, enjoy fantastic art, learn about tattoos, and enjoy conversations with like-minded people. 

An emphasis on fine details

The shop is owned by 29-year-old Ukrainian tattoo artist Dmytro Nazarenko, and his 24-year-old wife, Alina Frolova. The pair are helped out by another Ukrainian tattoo artist, Taras Vandzharuk. The tattoos foster a massive emphasis on fine details and the line-work of the artists in the shop. As a result, they are as close to perfection as they come. 

Dmytro is making a name for himself with his intricate floral patterns in Fineline style, something that’s rarely seen in other tattoo shops in the area. The highest-grade tattoo ink is used here, ensuring that customers get the perfect results every single time. Every single tattoo is unique and original, custom-designed for each client – there will never be any copies!

While this business is still very young, Dmytro and his wife have big plans for the future, with a fashion brand on the way, and ideas to open up a new tattoo shop very soon. The pair is keen to build on the community vibes and really create a sacred space for acceptance and transformation of the body and soul.

Black Hearts Tattoo Club opened in Greenpoint at the beginning of 2021. It is owned by Dmytro Nazarenko, a tattoo artist with years of experience. He is self-taught, spending 10 years perfecting his craft in private studios and shops. His passion for artistry led him to open this store, where he’s keen to offer something very different from all other tattoo artists in Brooklyn.
