Cosmetic Laser Dermatology Publishes Research on Diverse Population Treatment, Exosomes, & Acne Scars

Cosmetic Laser Dermatology is pleased to share that three of its board-certified dermatologists — Mitchel Goldman, MD, Sabrina Fabi, MD, and Jameson Loyal, MD — participated in several groundbreaking research studies published earlier this year. The seven topics covered include the treatment of diverse patient populations, the use of fibroblast-derived growth factors and exosomes, and acne scar treatment with radiofrequency microneedling and nonablative fractional laser devices.

Dr. Goldman participated in a research review titled “Fibroblast‐derived growth factors and exosomes as cosmeceuticals,” published in Dermatological Reviews. The study explored how these essential components in skincare contribute to improving aged and photodamaged skin. The results indicated that these components have the potential to enhance skin structure, function, and quality.

Dr. Fabi contributed to five articles discussing aesthetic considerations when treating patients of African, Latin American, Middle Eastern, Asian, and North American multi-ethnic descent. The articles, which discussed how dermatologists can more effectively treat individuals within these populations, were published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology.

Dr. Loyal and Dr. Goldman both participated in a study titled “Alternating Treatment With Nonablative Fractional Laser and Radiofrequency Microneedling for the Treatment of Acne Scars: A Prospective, Randomized, Split-Face Study,” published in Dermatologic Surgery. 

The study investigated the effectiveness of alternating nonablative fractional lasers (NAFL) and radiofrequency microneedling compared to NAFL alone in treating atrophic acne scars. The results showed that although both treatments are safe in addressing acne scars, alternating them does not seem superior to using NAFL alone.
