E-Cigarette Explosions Cause Severe Injuries Prompting Potential E-Cig Lawsuit Filings

June 06, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports that life-threatening harm was narrowly avoided in the case of a Kentucky man, and a Queens woman when their electronic cigarettes exploded. Located in her pocket, the force of the exploding e-cigarette reportedly tore the Queens woman’s jeans and removed the skin from her knee, and she says she received severe burns on her leg.

In the reported case from Queens, the woman was in the process of parking her car with her electronic cigarette in her pocket. The Richmond Hill resident reported that the e-cigarette battery, a lithium-ion type, abruptly exploded and embedded itself in her car’s dashboard. “It was like a firecracker,” she said, and the battery exploded so suddenly, burning her in the process, that she was in shock from the event. NBC 4 New York published a report detailing the event as it occurred to the victim, and the aftermath.

Victims have, unfortunately, been reporting many incidents of this type, where electronic cigarette batteries explode and harm both the user and others nearby, even placing them at further risk as the flames from the explosion grow potentially damaging property. In February, CNN publicized this danger with a news release covering the case of a Kentucky man whose e-cigarette battery exploded. As with the Queens woman, it was also in his pocket and severely burned his right thigh. CNN reported that, if not for the gas station worker who said he quickly used a fire extinguisher to put out flames covering the victim’s lower body, the man would likely have received life-threatening injuries from the e-cigarette fire.
