Global swimwear brand, Jantzen, is proving that it’s got what it takes to remain a style icon

United States – March 24, 2022

Renowned for making the suit that changed bathing to swimming, Jantzen is proving that it’s got what it takes to remain a style icon and the preferred choice of swimwear and beachwear for women the world over.

Global lifestyle brand, Jantzen, has been designing swimwear since 1910, with an emphasis on creating affordable, comfortable bathing suits that cater to women of all body shapes.

Through the decades

“Jantzen began as Portland Knitting Company in downtown Portland, Oregon producing wool suits for a rowing team on just a few hand-knitting machines above a tiny retail store. Little did founders Carl Jantzen, and Roy and John Zehntbauer know they would achieve both fame and controversy as swimwear pioneers,” explains spokesperson for the brand, Carrie Helferich.

The increasing demand for swimwear dubbed the “Jantzen” inspired the company name change to Jantzen Knitting Mills in 1918.

“These original swimming suits were made of 100% pure wool. Matching stockings and stocking cap completed the look with early advertisements guaranteeing the famous rib-stitch that ‘gives that wonderful fit’.”

Through the decades, Jantzen has proved it understands what its customers desire in a swimsuit, combining fun and functionality to design bathing suits and beachwear that not only enhance performance but that also looks good in and out of the water.

Ever the innovator, Jantzen didn’t only win hearts with its expertly produced swimwear, it captured the public’s imagination with its novel advertising campaigns and of course, the red Diving Girl icon, which has since become an international symbol.

The Diving Girl

“You can’t think of Jantzen without thinking about its world-famous Diving Girl icon, which has evolved with the brand to reflect the current swimwear and design vogue,” adds Carrie.

Over the decades, Jantzen’s enameled diving girl ornament has embellished everything from motometer and radiator caps to executive desks while the decal version of the icon has adorned everything from windshields to the side of London’s legendary double decker buses.

“Modern, sophisticated, and always stylish, Jantzen has been at the forefront of bathing fashion since the beginning. Our range includes full piece swimming suits, tops, bottoms, tankinis, and resort wear,” continues Carrie.

With decades of knowledge Jantzen quickly adapts to changing fashions and developments in the fabrics and textiles, ensuring that the brand remains at the cutting-edge of swimwear design.

“Our modern-day collections will always pay homage to the allure of the bathing beauties of the past, but with modern interpretations.”

“The combination of remaining true to our legacy while adapting to our customers evolving swimwear needs has helped us remain a leader in the swimwear arena and attract fans across the world that need comfortable, stylish and affordable swimwear.” concludes Carrie.
