Half of Britain’s Employees Have Switched To Permanent Home Positions
Half of the UK’s workforce is now working remotely, prompting increased interest in permanent home offices.
June 9, 2021 / / —
In July 2020, the Office of National Statistics released a report showing that half of the UK’s workforce were working remotely. More than half of people living in London (57.2%) did some of their work at home. In April 2020, nearly half of people in employment (46.6%) worked at home to some extent. An overwhelming majority of these workers (86.0%) stated it was due to the COVID-19 pandemic which prevented them from attending their office as usual.
However, despite country lockdowns being slowly lifted and vaccination numbers increasing, the future of Britain’s offices still remains uncertain. With many companies realising the financial benefits of abandoning offices in favour of remote workflows, more and more workers in the UK have been forced to adapt to permanent work-from-home conditions. In response to this, there has been a surge of interest in permanent home office spaces, such as renovating existing rooms into home studies or building separate garden rooms that are detached from the main property.
Khalid Khames, Head of Marketing at Garden Rooms, said “When comparing the period April to June 2019 with 2020, searches for ‘garden rooms’ rose 165%. Many of our clients have been informed by their employers that they will be working from home indefinitely and so they are now investing in a permanent home office.”
As a result of this renewed interest in home offices and garden rooms, companies such as Garden Rooms have seen a drastic increase in sales. As experts in bespoke garden room construction and design, Garden Rooms has worked with many clients around the UK to help them design and implement bespoke office spaces that are separate from the main household. The service is completely managed from the initial survey to final decorative touches, and the company offers a 10-year guarantee to ensure peace of mind.
