Hannover House and Paseo Miramar Studios Announce National Theatrical Release for Family-Friendly Feature, “A Dog and Pony Show”

LOS ANGELES, CA / ACCESSWIRE / August 24, 2015 / Producer Jerry Bryant’s production of director Demetrius Navarro’s “A Dog and Pony Show” will get a bright spotlight of attention under a theatrical releasing plan to launch onto more than six hundred screens across the U.S.A., announced distribution partner Hannover House, Inc. (OTC: HHSE). The January 22, 2016 release will enjoy enhanced marketing support from key exhibition chains including Regal Entertainment Group, Cinemark and Carmike, with long-lead trailers and theatre signage first appearing in October and building in frequency and visibility through the high-traffic, year-end holidays. The film will mark the first release from Hannover House to reach all of the top sixty-five largest U.S.A. markets simultaneously, with consumer visibility also generated through Comcast national cable advertising to reach kids and families.

“We have been working with Jerry and his team on a risk-free structure for the theatrical release of this film since our first announcement from Cannes in May of 2014,” said Eric Parkinson, C.E.O. of Hannover House. “The story is extremely commercial, and the production turned out great. This wide-release theatrical plan has been made possible due to exceptional marketing support from key exhibition chains as well as through the ancillary distribution agreements including home video, video-on-demand and subscription delivery through Netflix. For the past five years, Hannover House has sought to acquire or produce some higher profile titles that would merit a wide national theatrical release. We immediately recognized the commercial value in this film, and spent the past few months organizing the financing and marketing elements to deliver a release with major visibility – yet minimal risk to Hannover House,” he concluded.

A first look teaser trailer will launch on the Regal, Cinemark and Carmike websites in October, and will also appear before major family film releases at higher-traffic locations. A second trailer for the film will be exhibited beginning with the major Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday releases. Theatre lobbies will also feature interactive, corrugated cut-out standees, featuring some of the talking animal characters from the film. Finally, beginning in early January, a national cable television advertising campaign through Comcast has been targeted to deliver over 500-million consumer impressions before the January 22, 2016 theatrical opening. Placement of the television spots will be divided between network kids programming, family appeal shows, comedies and sports.

“A Dog and Pony Show” stars Ralph Macchio, Mira Sorvino, Patrick Muldoon and James Russo, with additional voice talent provided by Mae Whitman and Shari Belafonte. The film was produced by D Street Films in association with Paseo Miramar Studios. A formal press announcement covering details of the film’s production team and content will be released separately.

Independent distributor Hannover House has been pursuing strategies to elevate the company into a higher stature arena in terms of both revenues and consumer visibility. The availability of theatrical-caliber, completed films on the festival acquisition markets has proven elusive. So in 2013, the company announced plans to finance several of its own, theatrical productions. However, closing the complex pre-sale, private equity, facility and tax-funding elements for the financing of the family-fantasy adventure, “Mother Goose: Journey To Utopia” has been challenging, despite the support of stars Shirley MacLaine and Samuel L. Jackson. Another major theatrical production, the gritty western “The Legend of Belle Starr” has secured all of its required financing through private investors, along with a major star attachment, but has been delayed due to scheduling conflicts with the director. The releasing venture for “A Dog and Pony Show”is perfectly timed, said Parkinson, and will fill the winter 2015-2016 revenue window that had previously been held in place by Hannover House for “Mother Goose.”

Hannover House has been ramping-up its theatrical release activities during 2015, with the upcoming winter release of “A Dog and Pony Show” representing the culmination of these expansion efforts. Current releases for Hannover House include the thriller “Dark Awakening,” the political thriller “The Algerian” and the nature docudrama “Bonobos: Back to the Wild.” The company will be releasing the horror title, “Encounter” in October, along with specialty theatrical releases targeting art film audiences, Spanish theatres and Christian movie fans.

“The company’s core business of DVD and BluRay releases continues to grow,” said Hannover House president Fred Shefte. “But our video revenue growth is not coming from additional units per title, but mostly from the general increase in total new releases being handled by Hannover House and Medallion Releasing. There is a reasonably specific ceiling of potential video sales for titles that are released as direct-to-video. The only way to break through that revenue ceiling is to enhance the title’s visibility through theatrical release. The wider the theatrical release, the greater the title’s home video and V.O.D. upside becomes. Our goal has been to increase the market appeal for our higher-end titles through careful theatrical release campaigns, but to do so without incurring significant financial risk. The structure of the theatrical releasing plan for ‘A Dog and Pony Show’ relies heavily upon the marketing support from our key theatrical exhibition partners, and this minimizes the capital required to deliver huge visibility,” he concluded.

“We believe there is a major, unfilled market niche in the independent film arena that Hannover House can fill,” said Parkinson. “The elevation of Lionsgate to major studio stature, and the uncertainty surrounding the future of mini-major Relativity Media, has created a marketplace opportunity for an emerging company with mid-level films. The independent film industry has always been cyclical, and we see the next two years as trending very positively for companies with our Hannover House business model,” he continued.

Key DVD and BluRay retail accounts for Hannover House include Walmart Stores, Inc., Target, Best Buy, Redbox, Netflix, Barnes & Noble and thousands of independent video retailers, schools, libraries and booksellers. The company also sells entertainment products to a wide range of internet sites, and services most major video-on-demand portals. Hannover House stock is traded on the OTC Markets under ticker symbol: HHSE.
