Hoosier Families Inc. Steps Up Campaign To End Child Abuse & Neglect In Indiana.
Child abuse and neglect is never-ending. This is why Hoosier Families Inc., the #1 Indiana Child & Family welfare organization, scaled up its services to provide tangible skills that empower at-risk children and families to achieve their highest quality of life.
United States – December 12, 2022 —
Hoosier Families Inc., a non-profit organization and Indiana’s leading child & family resource, has stepped up its drive to end child abuse and neglect across Indiana.
In the state of Indiana, kids are nearly twice as likely to experience some type of child abuse and neglect every year compared to the average in the United States. One child experiencing abuse, let alone hundreds, is far too many.
According to Alexander Burks, Founder & Executive Director of Hoosier Families Inc., prevention remains the ultimate weapon to shield children against maltreatment.
“It is crucial for us to work together to build and empower families and communities by establishing safe spaces where appropriate resources can be obtained. To accomplish this, we all must work together vigilantly,” Burks says.
Among the signs of abuse or maltreatment seen in Indiana kids include unusual bruising. However, Burks says Indiana children can also exhibit behavioral patterns and problems that can point towards neglect, and sexual or emotional mistreatment, which can be more challenging to detect. This includes almost everything – from kids not reporting to class or being left alone at home.
Hoosier Families Inc. provides community-based programs for Indiana children and families, utilizing evidence-based practices to strengthen, rebuild and reunite the individuals and families its team encounters. Its programming is family-centered and inclusive of the holistic needs of the family and delivers a curriculum designed to nurture creativity in all children and parents.
Alexander Burks serves as Founder & Executive Director. His passion is the Child & Family Welfare sector, and he has dedicated his life to protecting and advocating for at-risk populations. Burks is known for being a collaborative and transformative leader, implementing strategic plans for the company’s development, and managing relationships with stakeholders.
As 2022 wraps up in a few weeks, the non-profit organization stays committed to the ongoing engagement and collaboration with other child and family welfare programs, including state agencies, to strengthen families’ connections to community resources.
Mickens, one of those who turned to Hoosier Families Inc. for assistance, described the foundation as a “lifesaver” and “game-changer” in Indiana.
“I will admit, my expectations of my children were very high and unreachable. I hated how ugly I’ve become to my children. Working with Hoosier families truly saved our relationship,” wrote Mickens.
Johnson, meanwhile, reached out to Hoosier Families Inc. to seek support and reduce the family stress they’ve been getting that might lead to abuse and neglect.
“I was skeptical at first, not truly understanding how my family could benefit from this. I am pleased to see the differences in my children and myself,” Johnson wrote.
