Horry County Councilman Cam Crawford’s First Responder Wellness Initiative Continues to Gain Steam

Committed to the South Carolina community, Cam Crawford continues working for the people of District and Horry County in the public safety project.

South Carolina, US – March 31, 2023

Horry County in Myrtle Beach recently held a meeting about Public Safety and an update to the mental health program for employees on Tuesday, 14 March 2023, with County Administrator Randy Webster. Since his term began, Cam Crawford, a District 6 Horry County Councilman, has advocated for extended mental health programs for first responders.

It is crucial that the public safety professionals, such as firefighters, police officers, and other officials, have the backing and assistance that people need in light of the unprecedented inflow of new residents moving to South Carolina for its numerous advantages and economic prospects.

The Public Safety Committee’s purpose is to have a year-round wellness program, with classes on nutrition, fitness, and changes to the workplace so that it better suits employees’ well-being. Recent reports show the program’s success.

As a Horry Councilman, Cam Crawford is helping to lead the county’s focus on mental health programs for first responders and those incarcerated. Cam Crawford is a local university Coastal Carolina University (CCU) graduate, where he studied political science and history and was inducted into the honors society for both fields of study. In addition to his service on County Council, he is also a licensed insurance agent with Southern Coast Insurance and endorsed by the State Governor of South Carolina.

Cam Crawford mentioned the safety condition in the area: “Over the years, I’ve noticed our employees in Public Safety, particularly police, and fire including 9-1-1, are constantly exposed to adverse conditions that can in many cases affect work performance. This can affect them at home as well.”

The county started a health and wellness program around seven years ago to enhance morale and support everyone’s safety and health. As a result, the county has developed “First Responders for First Responders,” a group of trained experts who respond to a coworker in need with the help of several mental health organizations.

This is just one of several initiatives to increase public safety, which benefits everyone in the coastal oceanfront county, including locals, students at CCU, and the numerous foreign tourists who frequent the area.

According to Crawford, improved programs would assist people in reintegrating into society by helping them in resolving any challenges they may be having. The Human Resources Department encourages county employees who are interested in any of the programs to get in touch with them.
