Brighton, England, United Kingdom – June 26, 2024

The London to Brighton Electric Vehicle Rally marked its fourth edition on June 22nd, 2024, with a spectacular showcase of sustainable transport solutions. Organised by Current PR Ltd and proudly sponsored by EDF, the event attracted over 121 entrants and an impressive 27,000 spectators throughout the day, solidifying its status as the largest international electric vehicle event in Europe.

The rally commenced from Westminster, featuring 100 cutting-edge electric vehicles embarking on the 59-mile journey to Brighton’s Madeira Drive. The event also welcomed over 30 teams from France making it a truly international affair.

Upon reaching Brighton, Madeira Drive transformed into a free-to-attend EVillage, bustling with a diverse display of electric vehicles, free test drives, live music, stunt shows, and exhibitions from across the sustainable transport spectrum.

Over 150 test drives took place, giving the public a chance to experience the latest in EV technology. Among the vehicles featured were the BYD SEAL, BYD ATTO 3, and BYD DOLPHIN. Attendees were particularly excited about the brand-new BYD SEAL U, which was proudly displayed. The event was staged with the help and support of Brighton and Hove city Council.

EDF, the founding sponsor, reaffirmed their commitment to the event and the broader goal of achieving Net Zero. An EDF representative stated, “Helping the UK cut its carbon emissions to help Britain achieve Net Zero is EDF’s purpose, so we’re thrilled to be sponsoring this brilliant event again to shine a light on Electric Vehicles, showing consumers the benefits and helping to encourage them to make the switch.”

Adam Kemp from Drive Electric added “We’re proud to be part of the EV Rally since its inception 4 years ago and this year was by far the best ever! It was great to engage with more participants than ever before, promoting the huge benefits of electric vehicles with such a valued partner as EDF. What’s great about the rally is that it’s attended by real people who have successfully made the switch to electric. People that are passionate about a greener and better future, something so important as we all continue to support each other on the road to net zero”

Pod Point, another key partner, shared their enthusiasm, saying, “We’re excited to sponsor this year’s EV Rally, celebrating innovation, sustainability, and electric mobility. We’re committed to making living with an electric car easy and affordable for everyone, and we’re looking forward to demonstrating the simplicity and convenience of EV living at the event.”

Europcar, a new stakeholder and mobility partner, expressed their delight in participating. The Europcar lounge inspired a fantastic panel led by Quentin Willson and featured Tom Middleditch from their team. They added: “We’re thrilled to have joined as the Official Mobility Partner to the London to Brighton EV Rally 2024. Our data shows many drivers are still unsure about electric vehicles, and events like this are crucial for breaking down those barriers. Rental offers easy, low-commitment access to electric motoring. That’s why we’re dedicated to educating private motorists and businesses, providing them with a wide range of EV options to support their transition to sustainable mobility.”

Quentin Willson, former Top Gear host and advocate for green initiatives, hosted a Q&A session, emphasising the exciting future of electric mobility. “With the current levels of innovation and R&D, the next decade promises to be the most exciting in the entire 120-year history of the car,” said Willson.

The rally also celebrated the most efficient vehicles and drivers across various categories, including motorbikes, city cars, saloon cars, last-mile delivery vehicles, self-build/conversions, vans, lorries, buses, and SUVs. Awards were given to those who demonstrated exceptional efficiency and innovation in their respective categories. Sponsored by the incredibly innovative 3ti, a company dedicated to solar technologies the presentation also paid tribute to its founder Tim Evans who sadly passed away earlier in the year. 3ti has supported the event for two years and is going from strength to strength with installations across the UK.

In a new collaboration with its sister company, EV RALLY CLUB, the rally extended its adventure beyond Brighton. On 23rd June, participants embarked on a journey to Paris, with an overnight stop before reaching Geneva on 25th June, showcasing the rally’s commitment to promoting sustainable travel across borders.

Event organisers Harrison Hughes and Bill Murray expressed their satisfaction with the event’s success, stating, “With over 121 entrants this year, it is the biggest event we have staged so far and is now the single biggest international electric vehicle event in Europe. We had 30 teams join us from Paris to Brighton, and our French cousins were delighted at the1000’s of people who came out to support the event over the day.”
