YouTube will use its existing Merchant Center feed to determine the most relevant TrueView shopping cards to display to a user. Advertisers will only be charged if the user clicks on a TrueView shopping card to visit the advertiser’s website. This makes this feature an interesting way to boost sales while also increasing awareness for a brand or a product.
The new feature would allow advertisers to promote a product on videos such as product reviews, unboxing videos, how to and tutorial videos and haul videos, in which YouTube users show off their most recent purchases. Unboxing and haul videos are more popular than ever before and this trend is not slowing down, which means advertisers could reach out to a huge audience thanks to this new feature.
Google announced that this new feature would become available in the upcoming months. It is unclear if the TrueView shopping cards will be available on time for the Holiday shopping season but regardless, this new feature should be an interesting way for advertisers to reach out to a wider audience of YouTube users.
