“Going back to 2018, I had a frightening experience when one of our dogs, a border collie named Plascon, got out due to a door being left open. My heart sank when we got home and could not find him. We posted on local Facebook groups, phoned kennels, and friends but with no luck. About an hour later we got a post on Facebook saying that a dog matching his description was found and dropped off at the local kennel. We were so relieved that it was him!” says head designer Johann van Niekerk on the inspiration behind the project. “The next day with the new motivation we started investigating this subject thinking, ‘There must be something by now’ and there was ,but it led to disappointment. You see, I work in IoT and was surprised that none of these devices made use of the latest IoT technology. The battery life was dismal and modes of operation left much to be desired.”

TailTracker is a waterproof, location, activity and health monitoring wearable for pets. With 3 modes of operation, bark detector, temperature, acceleration, GPS, Bluetooth, and Sigfox connectivity— TailTracker is ushering in a new era in the pet industry. It boasts the following best in class features:

• LPWAN Technology: similar to mobile operators, this technology uses short transmission bursts making it extremely energy efficient all without a SIM card
• NeroGPS+: a low power alternative to traditional GPS allowing TailTracker to offer best-in-class battery
• Safe-Zone Beacon technology: allows users to place a beacon somewhere in their home or yard to monitor if pet is still in safe zone
• Guardian mode: when device is no longer in range of the safe-zone it will automatically activate and send a notification for up to 30 days

The TailTracker software used to monitor the device is a cross-platform, web-based app that allows users to manage all their pets activities in one place. The TailTracker app will make all relevant information like a diet plan, vaccination schedule, activity log and location screens easy to operate. It is also capable of running optional AI algorithms on pets’ information in order to predict possible changes in behavior that could indicate potential health risks.
