The decision to revise surfboard carriage fees follows concerns raised by residents and visitors alike, notably during a recent ‘Raeesge Javaabu’ Q&A session with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. The issue gained attention when Ahmed Rasheed, a Gadhdhoo resident from Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, emphasised the exorbitant costs tourists faced, amounting to as much as US$800, to transport surfboards to The Maldives. Such expenses were found to deter surf enthusiasts, impacting the popularity of renowned surfing spots like Tiger Stripes in Gadhdhoo.
In response, President Muizzu pledged swift action to rectify the situation, prompting Maldivian to promptly revise its surfboard carriage fees. These adjustments aim to foster greater accessibility to The Maldives‘ surfing destinations, catering to both domestic and international surf enthusiasts.
