Los Angeles, CA, United States – October 29, 2015 /PressCable/ —
Mannheim Steamroller, the iconic band that mingles synthesizer, classical music and classic rock, will kick off its annual Christmas tour on November 10 in St. Petersburg, FL. The traditional holiday concert is the first in a tour that includes “almost every city” across the U.S. one critic noted. The concert tour is a follow-up to last year’s successful 30/40 tour to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Christmas and the 40th anniversary of Fresh Aire, and supports the Steamroller’s first live album release in more than 20 years. The album’s release has spurred ticket sales for the already popular show, making Mannheim Steamroller tickets some of the hottest holiday concert tickets to get.
According to online ticket selling site, ConcertBank.com, concert tickets for most of the shows are already on sale, and many of them are close to sold out. There are only a few hundred tickets left for the show’s opening night in St. Petersburg, a spokesman for the site noted, and there are fewer than 250 tickets available for Mannheim Steamroller’s Omaha shows, hometown of Mannheim Steamroller’s creator and producer, Chip Davis. Mannheim Steamroller’s new album, released October 16, 2015, was recorded at Omaha’s Orpheum Theater. The tour plays two shows at the Orpheum this year, on December 22 and December 23, before breaking so that band members can spend the holiday with family.
Mannheim Steamroller released its first Christmas album in 1984. Titled Christmas, that album single-handedly re-energized the art of recording and release holiday albums in the recording industry. At the time, producer Chip Davis had already created a signature sound for Mannheim Steamroller, blending synthesizer loops with orchestral scoring in a sound that one critic called “18th century classic rock,” and released several moderately successful albums under the Fresh Aire series. His attempts to interest record companies in producing an album of Christmas music, however, proved futile, and in the end, he produced and distributed Christmas independently. The album went on to become one of the most successful Christmas albums of all time, and spawned the annual Mannheim Steamroller Christmas tours.
With 68 Mannheim Steamroller Christmas shows scheduled between November 10 and December 28, Mannheim Steamroller now needs two touring companies to meet the demand. Davis credits the popularity of the annual concert series to family tradition. “My feeling is that Christmas is a family holiday,” he told reporters. “and my concerts are obviously very family friendly. When mom and dad brought their kids to the first Christmas concert back in 1984, those kids are now the moms and dads. When Mannheim Steamroller is in your market, you go to that like you did with your mom and dad.”
