Mountain Climber Katlego Announces Second Attempt at Mount Everest

Katlego Is a South African Mountaineer Who Will Make a Second Attempt at Mt. Everest

LOS ANGELES, CA / ACCESSWIRE / March 28, 2016 / On April 25th, 2015, South African climber Katlego and her team of Russian mountaineers were hard at work scaling the biggest mountain in the world- Mount Everest.

Making steady progress, their expedition was suddenly cut short by a devastating 8.1 Richter scale earthquake that tore through the Himalayas.

With that single tragedy, all the hard-won miles of struggle were wiped out, and Katelgo was forced home to Johannesburg to regroup and find a new way to conquer the mountain that she’s been dreaming about since she was a child.

Today, Katlego announced that she is putting together a second attempt at Mount Everest. In a few weeks, she will be joining another team of Russian mountaineers to scale the last mountain on her growing list of successful summits.

“I am fit, ready, and mentally prepared,” says Katlego.

One of her primary motivators for scaling Mt. Everest is that no woman of African origin has ever done it, and if she summits, she will only be the 30th South African to have stood on Everest’s peak.

“I think it would be a nice feat to achieve since no woman of African origins has managed to reach the top. It would be an inspiration to others,” says Katlego.

Katlego says that a bigger hurdle than the mountain itself is obtaining the necessary funding to bring her trip to fruition. So far over 50 organizations have turned down her request for sponsorship.

She has therefore taken her climb to “Generosity by Indiegogo,” where she seeks funds to cover the costs of climbing permits, Sherpas, guides, internal flights, food, tents, safety equipment, and oxygen.
