Muslim Barbers To Provide Free Haircuts To Milwaukee’s Homeless on December 6th, 2015, at Guest House of Milwaukee.
December 3, 2015 /MarketersMedia/ —
On Sunday, December 6th, a team of nine barbers will head to the Guest House of Milwaukee to volunteer their services and give free haircuts to Milwaukee’s homeless. The event is being organized by Ma’ruf—a local Muslim non-profit organization dedicated to supporting disenfranchised communities and individuals in need. “Inspired by the plight of refugees across the world, I want to put a smile on the faces of our own compatriots that also have no place to call home” said Salman Crawley, lead barber for Sunday’s event.
Ma’ruf has been providing relief for Milwaukee’s homeless since 2010 by mobilizing young Muslims across greater Milwaukee to construct and distribute 100 survival kits monthly. Among the recipients are residents of the Guest House of Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Rescue Mission.
“As bigotry is on the rise, we must put our faith into action by showing compassion toward our fellow Americans. As in Syria where many Muslims are facing homelessness, we also have people in our own backyard that have been homeless for years.” said Aamer Ahmed, president of Ma’ruf. “With over a third of Milwaukee living in poverty and 1,500 people enduring life on the streets with no shelter over their heads, we as Muslims are inspired by our faith to take responsibility and help” he added.
Ma’ruf will be facilitating the haircuts for the homeless at the Guest House of Milwaukee located at 1216 North 13th Street starting at 12:00 PM on Sunday.
