DALLAS (Aug. 11, 2017) — A sincere smile, a friendly handshake, sending out birthday cards, and a passion for listening before trying to make a sale are all too often overlooked today when it comes to retail automotive sales.

As the never-ending debate continues over what is the most-effective social media and digital marketing methods, one automotive trainer, Fran Taylor, continues to teach the basics to get sales people to sell 30 vehicles a month and more. Taylor, owner of Taylor Techniques, Inc., a national sales prospecting and education company, will provide three hours of training during the Marketplace Master Dealership Series Conference and EXPO, Sept. 6-8, at the Dallas Hyatt Regency.

The Marketplace Master event is designed to assist dealers and their personnel in improving their skills in the sales and marketing of new and used vehicle through training and education. Recently added to the three-day event is the Association of Auto Sales Professionals (AASP) Certification Programs for both sales managers and associates. This training is designed not only to help these professionals market and sell more vehicles, it will train them in ethics and their responsibilities to their customers and consumers at large.

Taylor is known throughout the country as the “King of Prospecting,” and his sales techniques have been taught at hundreds of dealer conventions, onsite training visits and seminars.

His goal is to help sales people learn to sell a car a day or more using his techniques. He will provide a three-hour workshop to kick-off the conference, and training will be one of the required sessions to earn one of two Association of Auto Sales Professionals Certifications during the conference. Taylor is one of five executive board members of the AASP.

During his training sessions Taylor discusses how he moved from 10-15 units a month to more than 50 units a month while selling cars at a franchise dealership. He shares the tools and methods he developed with his attendees and giving them ideas while inspiring and motivating them “to decide what they really want, develop goals, and create a plan to achieve those goals.”

While Taylor talks about buying and handing out refrigerator magnets to customers and prospects and how they get hundreds of thousands of “impressions” a year and numerous other “old school” techniques that are tried and true in gathering sales prospects, he embraces technology as well.

“Everybody is on Facebook,” said Taylor, who has been in automotive sales and training for 31 years. “If you’re not, why not? You can post on Facebook and boost that post within 100 miles of your dealership for $10 a week. You can put a video up there, a live feed, create some interest. Where can you possibly get that kind of exposure for $500 a year?”

He said he was very excited that the AASP Certification Programs have become a part of the Marketplace Master Dealership Series.

“There are Twenty Groups and certification programs for dealer principals and even a few for managers, but there is very little out there for the automotive sales associate,” Taylor said. “The AASP Certifications will raise the standard for our industry, and not only increase sales for the dealers out there, but raise improve the image of our industry throughout the country. It’s long over due.”
