July 02, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on the increasing number of cases being covered in the news related to exploding e-cigarettes. NBC News ran a story in February about a 26-year old man from Orange County, California that suffered second and third-degree burns when his e-cigarette device ignited in his pocket. This incident necessitated an 11-day stay in the hospital. According to the news report, the man was told by doctors that it would be two years before his leg would heal.
Another instance of an exploding e-cigarette occurred in Los Angeles. A man is suing the manufacturer and seller of the e-cigarette he used after it exploded in his pocket. According to a CBS Los Angeles report, the plaintiff was in a friend’s hotel room when he noticed a burning feeling on his leg. After he managed to get the device out of his pocket and onto the floor he noticed the battery had caught on fire and left burn marks on the hotel carpet. The victim is claiming he suffered damage to his thumbs and leg from second and third-degree burns.
