Personal Injury Lawyer Emphasizes Need For Stronger Workplace Safety Regulations, As Napa Valley Family Mourns Loved One

July 31, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com attorney responds to a fatal accident that occurred on June 1st when a steel beam fell and struck a construction worker. Attorney Thomas Moverman extended his condolences to the family and friends of the victim and commended the efforts of the medical personnel that transported and tried to save him. In light of this tragic accident, Moverman is hopeful that additional safety procedures will be put in place to protect U.S. construction workers while on the job.

As per a report from SFGate.com, the 36-year old victim was crushed by a steel beam as it fell while being dismantled from an A-frame structure that served as the VIP Lounge at the BottleRock Festival. Paramedics quickly transported him to Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa but their efforts to save him were unsuccessful, as doctors pronounced him dead.

The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) will be conducting an investigation of the man’s death to determine if any safety regulations had been violated. OSHA is responsible for ensuring the safety of the nation’s workers in over 8 million worksites spanning the United States. It has 10 regional offices and 90 local area offices. As per OSHA, in 2014 the “Fatal Four” leading causes of construction worker deaths was responsible for taking the lives of 500 construction workers.

Another agency, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), has stated that the third leading cause of death in 2014 of construction workers was being hit by equipment or objects, which was the scenario in the Napa incident. After being struck by objects or equipment, 73 individuals were fatally injured, which equates to 8 percent of all construction work-related deaths in 2014.
