However, brands are reluctant to see Instagram as a video platform. Many consultants of the opinion that Instagram doesn’t feel and look like a video platform as it’s designed for very quick scroll behavior where people do not take the time to stop and watch something. The parent company of Instagram, Facebook, also faced similar criticisms when it started ramping up video streaming in 2014. Facebook recently announced that its platform is now generating close to 8 billion video views a day, as of November 2015. However, Facebook counts a view if a video is played for just three seconds but it won’t be wrong to say that Facebook is a video platform.

However, there is a lot of difference in the video experience on Instagram and Facebook. One of the problems is that people cannot watch videos in full screen mode on Instagram. The video appears in the same area where photos appear which means that widescreen videos cannot be seen in full screen as there is no option to zoom in or tap for expanding the video. Instagram also recently announced that it will publicly start showing the number of views generated by a video. This number could compel brands to start uploading more videos as videos currently generate lower number of likes as compared to the photos uploaded by the brands.
