Manhattan, United States – March 10, 2016 /MarketersMedia/ —
For every Michael Jordan, Peyton Manning or Floyd Mayweather, there are a group of people who may have possessed levels of brilliance and competence at their craft. Even within their own right, these brilliant minds have still made a name for themselves. One example of a brilliant mind that operates at the highest level, is Bobby Gonzalez, successful basketball coach. Sunday – March 13th, Bobby Gonzalez, known for his passionate and energetic coaching style, will appear as a guest on ESPN NY radio 98.7FM. Hosted by Dave Rothenberg, the show is from 9:00am – 12:00pm and is a one stop shop for all things sports related. This week it’s all about March Madness. Who better than Bobby Gonzalez, former head coach of Seton Hall and Manhattan College, to come and speak his mind on Selection Sunday, plus the 68 teams competing in the NCAA tournament. One thing is certain with Gonzalez — he has found his passion in basketball and dedicates his life to it. While head coaching positions at universities may be a huge achievement, he never hesitates to give back on the most basic level as well, as he continuously hosts camp and clinics for kids to learn the game.
Brief bio: Post performing as an assistant coach at high schools, Gonzalez took his coaching talents to Xavier, where he also served as an assistant. From there, he had assistant coaching stints at Providence and the University of Virginia before landing a head coaching job at Manhattan College. It is here where his basketball brilliance truly began to reveal itself on a larger stage. He spent seven seasons coaching this team and led them to an overall 129-77 record. While earning this record, he also ended up earning two berths to the NCAA tournament. After success at Manhattan College, he went on to coach Seton Hall University. While coaching at Seton Hall University, Gonzalez notched a 66-59 record and made it to the NIT tournament.
It is one thing to teach a young player the X’s and O’s, but Bobby Gonzalez is far more cerebral and takes a mentor role in the lives of all of his players. This becomes apparent when you take a look at his teams, because he has created a reputation of being what one might call a “basketball whisperer”. He does this by inspiring his players in a way that is suited to his image. His gift when coaching is to get his players to buy in on the most basic level, and then build them up to truly unite and carry out the team vision. Publications like USA Today and ESPN have written glowingly about the coach, explaining that he is ready to take the next step and coach at bigger programs.
