Starlink has launched over 5,000 satellites into Earth’s lower orbit since 2019, according to satellite internet firm Spacelink Installations

Spacelink Installations is keeping a close eye on SpaceX’s Starlink project, which it says represents the pinnacle of satellite internet technology.

United Kingdom – November 15, 2023

Spacelink Installations, a TV aerial and satellite internet specialist, reports that Starlink now operates over 5,000 satellites, accounting for 50 percent of the world’s active total. The rollout is part of the Elon Musk-founded venture’s goal to offer global internet access to the world’s remotest communities.

“As Starlink installers operating in the UK, our customers ask us questions every day about the new project and the hardware it uses. They are used to regular ground-based broadband internet, but many want to know more about the benefits of having the web beamed directly to satellite receivers from space,” the firm says.

Spacelink Installations is now collecting data points about Starlink, providing a repository of information consumers can consult to learn more about the brand. It wants to use Starlink statistics to excite customers about the future of always-on satellite internet and how it could improve upon ground-based alternatives.

According to a post released by the company, Starlink plans to launch a staggering 42,000 satellites into Earth’s lower orbit over the coming years, providing blanket global coverage in all regions, including the poles. The UK-based firm also reports that as of September 2023, the organisation had 5157 satellites in orbit, of which around 93% were operational.

“If people interested in satellite internet want to learn more about Starlink, we have loads of interesting facts on our website,” says company owner Kieron Lynch. “We are just as fascinated as everyone else by recent developments in the sector and want to ensure more people in the UK start to benefit from this fabulous service, now rolling out globally.”

According to Spacelink Installations, Starlink satellites orbit around 342 miles above the Earth’s surface. Each satellite has tiny boosters onboard that enable it to perform collision-avoidance manoeuvres to prevent a runaway debris event. SpaceX will update the constellation every five years with new technology to improve bandwidth and services as it becomes available.

Users can also find information on Starlink’s role in the Ukraine conflict on Spacelink Installation’s website. Statistics include the number of Starlink terminals delivered to the embattled country and the cost of donations.
