Award-winning lawyer and social advocate, Jammy Kiggundu, has announced a video in which he has sat down with the parents of a teenager who, after a campaign of cyberbullying, took his own life. The interview, playing in-flight on American Airlines and Roku TV, explores the experiences of David Molak and his parents, Matt & Maureen Molak, and how they represent an epidemic that Jammy is seeking to bring more attention to.

“Years ago, a schoolyard bully was a student’s worst nightmare. Now, there is a second, possibly more dangerous bully; cyberbullies,” said Jammy Kiggundu. “Cyberbullies can be obvious, remain anonymous, create fake profiles, and can strike at all hours of the day and night on multiple platforms.”

Jammy has begun partnerships with notable organizations such as Crime Stoppers of Houston local governments, educators, private citizens, and others that are aiming to build and improve better communities, promote social awareness and provide training on various issues including cyber safety, cyberbullying, and social media use, with the help of the media and corporate sponsors.

1 in 5 girls experience cyberbullying, according to statistics from www.stopbullying.gov, while 1 in 10 boys are cyberbullied. The majority of this happens in the form of mean or hurtful comments online, with 23% of all victims experiencing this form. 20% experience rumors being spread online, 12% are threatened with violence online, 12% are threatened with violence through text, and 11% experience mean or hurtful pictures online.

“With minimal effort, they can threaten, taunt, harass and humiliate their target, causing severe emotional distress that, in some instances, has even led to suicide,” Jammy continues. “Bullying can have significant mental, developmental, and social effects, which is why it is a public health concern.”

Jammy M. Kiggundu has appeared on ABC, NBC, Fox, and NPR news stations and is an award-winning lawyer, two-term Emeritus Chair of the Entertainment & Sports Law Section of the Houston Bar Association and founding partner of the Texas-based law firm, Douglass & Kiggundu, PLLC. However, he also uses his platform to work on a variety of projects as a social advocate. This work includes public announcements, speaking in public forums and interviews, with the recent topic having seen him receive calls to write a book based on his anti-cyberbullying campaigning.

With his recent partnership with Crime Stoppers, as well as the interview available in-flight on American Airlines, Jammy aims to bring cyberbullying to the public attention to advocate for the victims and family members who suffer every day as a result.
