The 11th Annual Gardiner Memorial Basketball Classic Tournament, Aug 20-21

Join the Gardiner Foundation at the 11th Annual Gardiner Memorial Basketball Classic Tournament at St. James Park in the Bronx, NY this weekend. 500 backpacks filled with school supplies and five college scholarships will be given out.

The Gardiner Foundation, Inc. is hosting their 11th Annual Gardiner Memorial Basketball Classic Tournament, on Saturday, August 20th and Sunday, August 21st, 2016 from noon – 8 PM both days at St. James Park in the Bronx, NY. The best street ball teams in the country gather to compete in this ultimate two-day elimination-style championship battle for the coveted title.

The Tournament began in 2006 by Dexter Gardiner to honor the lives of Bronx hoops legend (and Dexter’s twin brother) Derrick Gardiner and five of his family members, who tragically lost their lives in a horrific car accident on the Bronx River Parkway.

Each year, thousands of New Yorkers flock to this action-packed weekend event, which offers live entertainment, giveaways and free food and beverages. Prior tournaments have included many celebrity appearances, including NY Knicks legend John Starks and NBA Superstars Ben Gordon and Trevor Ruffin.

Giveaways raffled off (free of charge) throughout the weekend to those in attendance are to include iPads, laptops and other electronics, basketball gear and backpacks filled with school supplies to the community youth. Some of this year’s events include a scholarship presentation to local college-bound high school seniors and a memorial service honoring families who have recently suffered a loss. Sunday will also feature a local youth all-star basketball game.

This tournament, sponsored by Lawyertime.com, is free to the public and will take place Saturday, August 20th and Sunday, August 21st, from 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM both days at St. James Park in the Bronx on West 192nd Street and Jerome Avenue (Please note rain location: Gaucho’s Gym, 478 Gerard Ave., Bronx, NY).

The Gardiner Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization which offers a variety of support to community members in the Bronx, NY area experiencing various social and financial needs ranging from college scholarships to burial assistance, spiritual mentoring and guidance. The Gardiner Foundation has handed out over 1,500 backpacks, 35 scholarships and more than 100 iPads and other electronics, since its inception.

The Tournament is FREE for spectators and open to the public.
