The Humble Contact Lens Case Reimagined- The World’s First Luxury, Eco-Friendly, Super Hygienic Contact Lens Case
TheLensCase applies modern design aesthetics, combined with an emphasis on reducing plastic waste and improving hygiene practices, to deliver the first modern interpretation of the contact lens case.
London, England, United Kingdom – July 30, 2024 —
UK startup, TheLensCase (TLC), is reinventing the contact lens case with the world’s first design-led contact lens case for reusable contact lenses.
Working closely with award-winning UK design agency, Morrama (www.morrama.com), the team has taken a long, hard look at the utilitarian offerings currently available and turned them upside down to deliver an elegant and functional case that feels great in the hand and would not look out of place in the list of designer accessories of the most style-conscious individuals.
Dan Power, TLC founder, said, “Designing something premium, new and modern was not the only objective.” “The team also wanted to address sustainability and health challenges associated with contact lens use. To this end, we have reduced plastic waste by 75% and improved lens care hygiene by building simple workflows to set up reminders for replacing inserts.”
Eco-Conscious Solution reduces plastic waste by 75%
Over 70 million contact lens wearers dispose of their cases every 30 days, which amounts to 840 million cases being thrown away every year. TheLensCase has reduced the amount of plastic disposal by 75% by creating an ultra-thin insert to act as the repository for the cleaning liquid and lenses. The body of the case is made from zinc, which is both easy to recycle and 100% recyclable indefinitely.
Improving Contact Lens Hygiene Practices
According to eye care professionals, lens cases need to be replaced every 30 days to prevent the build-up of biofilm that can increase the risk of eye infections, including keratitis. In extreme circumstances, this can lead to blindness.
The team wanted to help their customers to maintain a regular cadence. Setting simple email reminders using a QR code means wearers get regular prompts to replace their inserts every 28 days to reduce the risk of eye infections due to extended use of their lens case.
How it Works
TheLensCase comprises a beautifully designed body that holds two ultra-thin inserts. These hold the cleaning fluid in which the lenses are stored when not in use. These inserts simply click into place using virtually invisible ridges that lock into the body of the case. The inserts can be inserted and removed simply when necessary without the use of tools. The inserts were designed using a globally adopted design that prevents leakage when the lid is closed.
Market Size Information
There are over 400 million contact lens wearers globally, including 140 million reusable contact lens wearers in the US and Europe. These customers represent TheLensCase’s primary target market. Almost 70 million people use reusable contact lenses, which require the user to remove their lenses whilst sleeping.
Over 85% of contact lens wearers are in the two highest socio-economic groups and are normally associated with purchasing premium products. Currently, lens wearers have virtually no choice and resort to using cheap plastic storage containers. Whilst these work, they are a curious anomaly in the lives of the style-conscious, luxury goods buyer.
Pricing
TheLensCase is priced at $79.95 (£69.95) and includes 6 months of inserts.
6-monthly subscriptions for additional inserts are charged at $25.00 (£20.00) for 6.
