Two-Day Event Includes Golf Tournament, Performance By Legendary Funnyman

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Tidewater Golf Club is poised to host the first Mentor Cup Charity Golf Tournament on October 27. The brainchild of Kelly Tilghman, a native of North Myrtle Beach and a pioneering television personality, the Mentor Cup was conceived as a way to honor the late Gene Weldon, a legendary former PGA professional, and to raise money to assist junior golf.

The weekend’s festivities will begin with the Gene’s Dream Gala on Friday evening, October 26 at the Surf Club. Guests will enjoy open bar, dinner, live entertainment and exclusive auction items. Tickets prices for the dinner are $150 per person.

The Mentor Cup tournament will be played the following morning at Tidewater, one of America’s premier public golf courses. With eight holes that play along either Cherry Grove or the Intracoastal Waterway, Tidewater is the area’s most scenic course and an ideal host venue for an event that will welcome 60 two-person teams.

Each team will feature a mentor and mentee and the 18-hole tournament will use different formats of play throughout the round. The front nine will be a captain’s choice and the back nine will be a modified alternate shot.

Saturday evening, legendary funnyman David Feherty will be performing at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Feherty: Off Tour is a live 2-hour stand-up performance by the Irishman that features great storytelling and uproarious laughter. The Golf Channel superstar plays to sold out crowds in large markets, so his visit in support of Gene’s Dream and Mentor Cup will be a treat for Myrtle Beach golfers.
