Charity Cab announced that the company has now donated over $20,000 to local and national charities. As the only transportation company of its kind in the Tri-Valley area, Charity Cab commits $1 from every fare to worthy groups like the American Cancer Society, the American Red Cross, UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland, and Pleasanton-based Kids Against Hunger Bay Area. From a first-month donation total in May 2013 of $253, Charity Cab has gone on to exceed $20,000 in donations, making every taxi ride matter in another important way.

“When we established the company nearly three years ago now, we were committed to making a real difference,” Charity Cab founder Rhett Havener said, “To have reached and gone beyond this major, $20,000 donation milestone is a great source of satisfaction and pride for all of us here at Charity Cab. We’d like to thank our many customers and everyone else who has made this possible. We promise to keep up the level of service and dedication to our clients that have made Charity Cab such a success and to keep looking for new ways to give back to the community and help others.”

Growing up in the farming-focused town of Patterson, Havener developed a keen feeling for the importance of community and helping those in need. When a motocross injury left him sidelined a number of years into his business career, he decided to take some time off to travel and think about what he would do next.

Having already noted that the Tri-Valley area was in need of a high-quality cab company that would emphasize environmental responsibility and other ideals alongside customer service, Havener developed this observation into something more as traveled through Central America, Europe, and Asia. Seeing how much help was needed all over, he committed to founding a new company that would give something back with every sale, while also excelling at providing cab services.

Charity Cab was born in 2013 as a result of that planning, with Havener putting everything on the line to get it started. Living out of his young company’s cabs early on, Havener soon built up a loyal base of regular customers who recommended Charity Cab to others in the Tri-Valley area. As a result, Charity Cab quickly become the top taxi service in the Pleasanton area, building the company’s fleet and adding airport transportation service as time went on.

From a first month total of just over $250, Charity Cab has now gone on to donate more than $20,000 to a carefully selected and growing group of national and local charities. Beneficiaries of the company’s donation program have included the Alzheimer’s Society, the ASPCA, Habitat for Humanity, the United Way, and a number of hard-working local groups like Kimberlyn’s Ears, with more being added regularly. By putting people before profit, the company has become recognized throughout the region as a positive, integral part of the community, a reputation that it commits to burnishing further in the future.
