Xarelto Lawsuit Plaintiffs Seek Significant Compensation For Life-Threatening Injuries

December 10, 2015 – – BloodThinnerHelp.com reports on another lawsuit filed against blood-thinner Xarelto. This particular lawsuit was filed on October 5th of 2015 in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. The complaint was filed by a husband and wife who live in Morrow County, Ohio. Together, they have alleged that Xarelto manufacturers Bayer AG and Janssen Pharmaceuticals (a division of Johnson & Johnson) are liable for serious and life-threatening injuries experienced by the wife, and they are seeking over $50,000 for these injuries.

Details found within the complaint explain that the wife was prescribed Xarelto to prevent stroke due to her atrial fibrillation condition, which was chronic. Xarelto was approved in 2011 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to be used for this purpose as well as a treatment for people who are undergoing knee and hip replacement surgeries.

In this case, the woman suffered from gastrointestinal bleeding and anemia only two months after beginning to take the drug. She alleges that the injuries have required expensive and lengthy medical treatment, and that even today, she continues to require certain treatments.

Lawsuits similar to this one have recently surged in number. Federally, they number over 1,800 and have been consolidated to form multidistrict litigation number 2592. These cases are being overseen by Judge Eldon Fallon in the Eastern District of Louisiana. Additionally, there is another grouping of Xarelto lawsuits which have been formed into a mass tort in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Plaintiffs involved in these cases allege that Xarelto causes serious uncontrollable bleeding episodes, and is especially dangerous due to the fact that it has no available antidote.

Having no antidote means that if a person taking Xarelto begins to bleed, doctors cannot do anything to counter the effects of the drug and allow that person’s blood to clot. In these cases, patients require extreme measures such as surgeries and blood transfusions. Other traditional blood thinners, however, have an available antidote in vitamin K. If a person using a traditional blood thinner begins to bleed, physicians can treat them with vitamin K, which will allow their blood to clot.

As lawsuits continue to grow in number across the nation, Attorney Joseph Osborne is working to ensure that everyone who has been negatively affected by the drug will have the opportunity to explore their legal rights. Those who have used Xarelto and who have subsequently experienced adverse health effects may be entitled to significant compensation. Attorney Osborne is offering these individuals free legal consultations at this time.
