Xarelto Lawsuits Alleging Serious Uncontrollable Bleeding Risks Surpass 2,200 In Federal Court

December 17, 2015 – – BloodThinnerHelp.com reports on new numbers in Xarelto Lawsuits involved in the Eastern District of Louisiana multidistrict litigation (number 2592). These cases, consolidated in federal court, now number over 2,200, and all involved plaintiffs commonly allege that they have suffered serious health complications after using blood thinner Xarelto. Plaintiffs additionally allege that the drug poses a significant risk of uncontrollable bleeding episodes, which manufacturers Bayer AG and Janssen Pharmaceuticals (a subdivision of Johnson & Johnson) neglected to make the public properly aware of.

Traditional blood thinners such as warfarin also come with a risk of uncontrolled bleeding, however, unlike Xarelto, these blood thinners have an available antidote in vitamin K, which can make a huge difference. If a patient taking a traditional blood thinner becomes injured and bleeds, physicians treat them with vitamin K to counter the effects of the drug and allow their blood to clot.

Xarelto, a new generation of anticoagulant, never came with an antidote. Today, 4 years later, it still offers none. This means that for Xarelto patients, what might usually be considered a minor injury can become serious and even deadly. When someone with Xarelto in their system becomes injured and bleeds, physicians are unable to clot that blood. In these cases, the physicians have to resort to extreme life-saving measures such as blood transfusions or surgeries in an attempt to keep the patients alive.

Plaintiffs commonly state that had they been aware of these risks, they would have chosen an alternative blood thinner and never taken Xarelto. As the number of patients being prescribed Xarelto continues to increase, the number of adverse events linked to the drug increases as well. The Institute for Safe Medicine Practices indicated in information from the first quarter report of 2013, that the number of serious adverse events that have been linked to Xarelto outnumber those linked to Pradaxa, another “new-generation” anticoagulant.

Xarelto bellwether case selections are set to begin this January, and the first bellwether trials are expected to be heard in early 2017. For now, this leaves time for other lawsuits to be filed and join the MDL should the case not be barred by the Statute Of Limitations. Attorney Joseph Osborne is working to help ensure that those who have ingested Xarelto and suffered adverse health events are aware of this. To help these individuals fully explore their legal rights, he is currently offering free Xarelto consultations. Those negatively affected by Xarelto may be entitled to significant compensation.
