North Texas Equine Center Showcases New Facility and Raises Funds to Help Veterans and those with Special Needs

ROANOKE, TX / ACCESSWIRE / June 19, 2015 / Todd Sternfeld, chairman of the Victory Therapy Center (VTC), a non-profit equine therapy center based in North-Texas, is holding a launch party on Saturday, June 20 to showcase the organization’s new, state-of-the-art facility in Roanoke. Open to the public, Victory Center is offering free food, music, tours of the center and live demonstrations by instructors and riders.

A visionary facility built upon the benefits of equine-assisted therapy and psychotherapy, Victory Therapy Center help individuals with physical, mental or emotional disabilities and challenges. In December 2013 Don & Linda Bowden took over the leadership of an established equine therapy program and moved the operations to Roanoke, Texas. Located on 25 acres of rolling hills, the facility is outside of the town of Flower Mound, just northwest of Grapevine Lake.

Victory Therapy Center is staffed with riding instructors that are Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH) certified. The dedicated instructors are experienced in providing therapeutic equine therapy and are committed to creating customized care objectives for each program participant. VTC helps each rider realize individual treatment goals. The center serves families, rehabilitation centers and hospitals, in addition to schools and other disabled or disadvantaged individuals.

Victory Therapy Center serves those with special needs, helping them live a happier and more enriching life through equine therapy. The center offers a variety of programs:

Therapeutic Riding – The center’s staff develops customized programs utilizing PATH certified therapeutic riding instructors. Working one-on-one with program participants, instructors and the center’s equine therapists help riders improve respiration, circulation, balance and motor skills; strengthen muscles; increase self-esteem; develop problem skills; teach patience and empathy; establish lasting relationships; and, learn to understand nonverbal communication skills.

Physical Therapy – The horse’s variable, rhythmic and repetitive gait gives riders sensory input through movement. Mimicking human movement patterns of the pelvis while walking, the horse’s gentle gait stimulates a similar response in the rider. Licensed physical, occupational and speech therapists use the horse and the rustic ranch setting to accomplish treatment goals that can’t be duplicated in a conventional environment. Each therapy plan is carefully customized for the rider as specified by their physician.

Counseling – Equine-assisted counselingis unique, and integrates the healing spirit of the horse with traditionalcounseling skills. Therapy sessions are facilitated by master level and/or licensed mental health counselors and qualified equine professionals. Equine companions offer immediate, honest and unbiased feedback as ridersinteract with the horses and begin to increase awareness of thoughts, feelings, words, and actions. This experiential treatment approach enhances self-awareness and re-patterns unhealthy behaviors, feelings and attitudes. Services are available for individuals, families, couples and children. In a peaceful outdoor setting, riders, learn to create healthy relationships, process trauma, develop coping skills, assign meaning to painful experiences, develop coping skills, define boundaries and more.

Horses for Heroes – Victory Therapy Center serves those that served. The Horses for Heroes program provides equine facilitated psychotherapy and therapeutic riding to meet the needs and improve the lives of military veterans and their families. Utilizing the relationship between riders and horses, the program helps participants address many of the challenges that arise for veterans who have suffered trauma in the line of duty. VTC helps them to adjust physically and emotionally to their post-war lives. Equine therapy supports veterans with a variety of emotional issues and physical injuries including spinal cord damage, traumatic brain injury and amputation. Services are confidential and provided free to veterans and their families. Benefits of the program include: reintegration into civilian life, anger management, employment readiness, distress tolerance, PTSD, depression, substance abuse, marital/family/child counseling and more.
