REVTECH Announces 2015 Accelerator Program Participants

Dallas, Texas, United States, 06/29/2015 /SubmitPressRelease123/

REVTECH, the Dallas-based venture accelerator and seed fund dedicated to tech innovation for the restaurant and retail industry, has announced the companies that will be participating in this year’s REVTECH Accelerator program. Through this unique 14-week mentor-driven program, each start-up will be provided up to $40k in seed capital, business development workshops hosted by successful entrepreneurs and industry leaders, free office space at the Dallas Entrepreneur Center and an opportunity to present at Pitch Day in September 2015.

REVTECH Managing Director David Matthews said, “We are thrilled to have attracted five amazing companies to this year’s accelerator program; also to have engaged the collective wisdom of over seventy amazing mentors including successful retail tech entrepreneurs, investors, and industry managers.”

ABOUT 2015 REVTECH ACCELERATOR PARTICIPANTS

UrComped is a hospitality tech company born from Craig Shacklett and Cale Sherry that provides high-value slot and table game players with complimentary trips, rooms and entertainment to the best casinos and cruise lines in the world. UrComped leverages the comps that casinos typically award to their most active players after they have established their level of engagement and play, by predetermining the value of each player and arranging comps upfront with the UrComped partner casinos. The UrComped platform includes an active social media engagement component to establish community and has begun monetization and revenue generation.

“UrComped bridges the ‘knowledge gap’ between partner casinos and the players who are most valued by this ever-competitive and fiercely intuitive industry. By working through the REVTECH Accelerator, we can better identify the best practices and differentiators that we can use to make our business successful,” says Shacklett.

PnP Loyalty is a “Plug n Play” loyalty marketing and CRM automation platform for small to mid-sized chains. They identify and prevent missed revenue opportunities for retailers and restaurants by tracking and responding to individual guest behaviors. PnP Loyalty is led by CEO Evan Brody.

He says, “REVTECH is going to help our company progress to the next stage in a fraction of the time it would take us to do it ourselves. After only a week, we have already met mentors and had workshops that are changing the way we do business for the better.”

The Citizenry partners directly with artisans and sells to consumers online to deliver ethically crafted home goods without the markup of luxury boutiques. Since their 2014 launch, they have partnered with over 200 artisans across 3 countries, providing fair wages, safer working environments, and development grants to help their artisan partner’s progress and grow their businesses.

Co-founders Rachel Bentley and Carly Nance say, “More and more creative, design-oriented startups are emerging in Dallas – making it the perfect place to build a company dedicated to modern design and the world’s best craftsmanship like The Citizenry. We’re excited to be a part of the REVTECH community, surrounded by like-minded peers and mentors.”

Everthread is a custom fabric printing solution for interior designers. Using a highly sophisticated e-commerce platform and on-demand digital printing, Everthread is a designer’s ultimate resource for custom printed fabrics. EverThread’s unique platform gives designers access to powerful customization tools and an expansive design library making it easier than ever to source and create custom printed fabrics for any project.

“REVTECH has already seen what I see in the future of Everthread and has shown confidence through the support, mentorship and invaluable connections afforded through the program,” says Nicole Mossmon, founder and CEO.

Eskalab is the newest program participant in the REVTECH Accelerator. Eskalab, hailing from Colombia, aims to help businesses in the Food and Beverage industry by optimizing resources, sales and profit according to customer’s behavior. This is achieved through menu engineering, pricing strategy and resource forecast and optimization.

“We believe that Eskalab is the easiest way to collect and analyze relevant Point of Sale data. Working alongside REVTECH in Dallas, who has endless possibilities and connections in the restaurant industry, we hope to make a positive impression and ultimately propel our business in the United States,” says Hector Sanchez, Knowledge Developer for Escalab.”

Red, White and Bar-B-Que

Dallas, Texas, United States, 06/29/2015 /SubmitPressRelease123/

The Fourth of July, the ultimate celebration of pomp and parade, is right around the corner. The holiday occurs smack-dab in the middle of prime barbeque season and Soulman’s Bar-B-Que CEO, Brett Randle, shares some of the “tricks of the trade” that make for the perfect summertime execution of this culinary tradition.

Let’s get smokin’! The best flavors come from the smoke that permeates through the meat. However, if you have a gas grill instead of charcoal or a smoker, you can create the same flavor by taking some wood chips, loosely wrapping them in foil, poking a few holes in the foil, placing on the grill and voila! This will allow the wood to smolder and produce the smoke that is imperative for an authentic smoky taste.

Prepare ye with the correct sauce. “Making sure you have the right BBQ sauce on hand is vital. The secret to a great barbeque sauce is the balance of flavors and proper consistency. All of the ingredients must have a perfect balance and thickness. If the sauce is too thin, it will dissipate in your mouth. Sauce that has the proper consistency, and contains the right snap, will start a party in your mouth! If not, you can hang up your tongs.”

A little something on the side! Tradition often supports guests bringing their own sides, defined by category. This includes classics like potato salad and beans. But don’t forget that fire can also do amazing things to vegetables! The key to grilling vegetables is to KEEP IT SIMPLE. Slice the vegetable thin and put directly on the grill. No spray, no seasoning, just a little charring along the bars does wonders to peppers, onions and asparagus. After you take them off, add some olive oil and vinegar, and you’re set.

Rest in peace. While the immediate reaction may be to “come get it while it’s hot,” the best thing to do is “give it a rest.” Let your finished meats rest on a clean platter, tented with foil, for about 10 minutes. This allows all of the juices to distribute evenly.

The ultimate brush-off. No one said that grilling is the tidiest way to prepare food, but it’s easier to remove barbeque bits when the grill is hot. So, after preheating, use a grill brush with a long handle to clean off charred debris from previous use and scrape again immediately to remove any grilled-on mess.

About Soulman’s Bar-B-Que
For more than 40 years, Soulman’s Bar-B-Que has satisfied the hardest to please barbecue lovers…Texans! Their selections of meats are cooked “low and slow” over hickory in a time-honored tradition: beef brisket, ham, hot links, sausage, turkey, chicken, pulled pork and, the crowd favorite, ribs. Ranch House Beans and Spicy Cream Corn are among the delicious homemade sides. Soulman’s currently owns and operates 15 North and East Texas locations in Cedar Hill, Dallas, Forney, Garland, Greenville, Hurst, Lancaster, Mesquite, Quinlan, Rockwall (2), Royse City, Terrell, Van and Allen – the newest location. Joint Replacements make life painless when nothing works: Say Experts

We all need some quality time for ourselves, some quality moments we want to spend with our families. We love to play around with our kids, go trekking with friends or enjoy long walks with our partners. We enjoy running around like never to be stopped; thank god we don’t have wings. But have you ever thought that what happens if something stops us from doing all these things. Yes there are people who are missing these small joys of life and not because they don’t want to enjoy them but because they can’t. They suffer with pain, not only of joints but also of some special moment they have to miss.

Joint stiffness & pains is one such ailment which is becoming very common amongst people. More and more cases of osteoarthritis are reported today; affecting knees and hips the most.

Dr. Ashok Rajgopal,
Chairman – Medanta
Bone & Joint
Institute.

Knees are primarily weight-bearing joints while hips not only support the weight of the body but also enable movement of your lower body; and therefore more commonly affected. With time the severity grows leading to surgery for joint replacements, such surgeries help patients lead a normal life as before. “Apart from osteoarthritis, natural wearing out, rheumatoid arthritis, tumors involving or around joints and trauma with joint destructions due to road accidents, sports injury and injury of other forms leads to such processes,” tells Dr. Ashok Rajgopal, Chairman – Medanta Bone & Joint Institute. Knee pain usually occurs due to activities which are done often and it can also occur regardless of activity level, and is part of aging process; on the other hand problem related to hip, usually caused due to irregular activities. Severity becomes many folds because of unusual posture or sitting in one single position for long in office. There are several medicinal management processes available for joints related problems, which doctors prescribe; one has to take these pills regularly to subside pain and to support movements.

Dr. S.K.S. Marya, Vice Chairman on the Max Healthcare Board of Directors & Chairman – Orthopadics, New Delhi, “Once the joint is damaged and the cartilage is lost the only way to recreate a painless situation is a joint replacement surgery. Medicines, physiotherapy, intra articular injections and arthroscopic debridement can be of limited assistance.”

Dr. Ramneek Mahajan,
Director Orthopedic
and Replacement,
Saket City Hospital

Dr. Ramneek Mahajan, Director Orthopedic and Replacement, Saket City Hospital tells us, “Joint replacement surgery is removing a damaged joint and putting in a new one. The doctor usually suggests a joint replacement to improve how you live as replacing a joint can relieve pain and help you move and feel better. Hips and knees are replaced most often while other joints that can be replaced include the shoulders, fingers, ankles, and elbows. These replacements are performed in different formats usually known as partial and total replacement, depending on the condition of the patient.”

The baby boomer generation is getting older and heavier which means that over the coming decades a lot of person in the young age are developing knee and hip problem. “A huge number of young people are either Obese or overweight, which causes more wear and tear (than normal weighing people) of bones making them osteoporotic; this can be attributed largely to today’s sedentary lifestyle. Another big reason behind bone and joint disorders largely seen in India is Indoor lifestyle; a large number of Indians are vegetarians which limit their Vitamin D intake, less exposure to sunlight further reduces Vitamin D in the body hindering proper calcium deposition and making us Indian more vulnerable to bone related ailments,” explains Dr. Ashok Goel, Sr. Consultant, Sri Balaji Action Medical Institute.

In today’s mechanical world, we tend to put ourselves in tremendous mental and physical pressure. Our ambitions make us see every possible extremity; we want to achieve everything and nothing can stop us. Long working hours, extended travels, quick or skipped meals and extreme mental pressure are part of our daily routine. While we walk on swords edge with such things, falling for sedentary lifestyle makes it more dangerous and our body starts wearing out. “We recommend joint replacement only when the architecture of the joint gets distorted and pain becomes constant; this may be the sequel to degenerative changes that are commonly seen secondary to aging, usage, lack of exercises, osteoporosis, deficiency in Vit D3, smoking etc. or to joint related diseases,” said Dr. Harshavardhan Hegde Executive Director, Bone and Spine Institute Fortis Escorts Heart Institute & Research Centre.

With knee or hip surgery, a patient probably needs to stay in the hospital for a few days. If the person is elderly or have additional disabilities, he or she may then need to spend several weeks in an intermediate-care facility before going home. According to Dr. Rajgopal, “In most knee cases good amount of bending is seen on the first day itself and patients are able to walk with support within a day or two; with an approximate period of recovery being 4-6 weeks.” One is mobilised with support after surgery within 24 hours. A walker or crutches are used for two to three weeks. Following this a cane is advised for a month. There may be some temporary pain in the new joint as muscles are weak from not being used and also as the body is healing. The pain can be helped with medicines and should end in a few weeks.

“Conventionally the joint replacement is carried out in the elderly. Earlier it was preferred only in patients past sixty years of age because the average life span of the prosthesis was ten to fifteen years. With more people wanting to live for the present rather than suffer with the hope for a better tomorrow younger age groups are now opting for joint replacement surgeries,” says Dr. Marya. Replacements are possible for both knee as well as hips; technology has also taken away the age constraints, now it can be done for the patients in their eighties also. Dr. Hegde adds, “It depends on the extent of suffering and disability of the patient however as there is a limit to the survival of an artificial joint a young patient undergoing joint replacement may have to undergo a revision surgery again.”

Technology today has provided us with multiple options enhancing both quality as well as life of the implants. “Technology has enabled us today with implants which are sturdy and flexible, recent advancement has increased the life of implant up to three times. The earlier implants use to last up to ten years and now there are implants available which last for around thirty years,” added Dr. Mahajan.

People usually are scared of such surgeries and it makes sense as joint replacement is counted amongst the major surgeries. Elaborating on the seriousness of the surgery Dr. Goel says “Any short coming can lead to serious problems like joint infection. It is therefore suggested that these surgeries should be performed by experts with a lot of experience. Patients have all the right to check the details like experience, training, education of any doctor they are getting treated with. Hospitals environment, upkeep and equipments also play a major role in such surgeries.”

People usually ask me, how successful these surgeries are; says Dr Mahajan, “It’s a doubt I have seen in every patient and nothing is better to address such doubts than live examples. Rakesh, chauffer by profession lost his job and happiness because of severe arthritis. He was very depressed when he came to me. With god’s grace I was able to give him back both, his happiness and job. We performed total knee replacement for his both knees and he is perfectly fit to do anything he wants; and now drives me to work every day. Similarly, we came across a cycling enthusiast couple, they loved the sport but as wife was suffering from severe Joint disorder, they were restricted not to pursue their interest. We operated her for knee replacement and since then they have been breaking many records and setting new milestones riding their cycles.”

Most of these surgeries are available in India now, along with the international quality implants and that too in a reasonable cost. “India is a hub of such surgeries now, we are in the age of internet and technology is not confined to any boundaries anymore. All the technology and implants are now available in India and such surgeries are performed with high standard here,” added Dr. Mahajan.

Sexy Brazilian Printed Tights And Yoga Leggings Introduced By Kast Australia Fitness Wear

It’s time to go Brazilian! See why Aussie women are legging it to the latest printed tights, capris and shorts by Kast Australia – and it’s not just for fashion…

Gold Coast, Australia – June 29, 2015 /PressCable/

A simple compliment in Maui, Hawaii has instigated the launch of Kast Australia, bringing bold Brazilian leggings down under!

Michael, a personal trainer is used to seeing lots of boring black tights on clients until recently when he was training a lady in Maui who was wearing a pair of fabulous, bright coloured leggings. He’d never seen anything like them in Australia and gave her a compliment.

As fate would have it, she was the distributor of Kast Fitness Wear in America. Michael said “Australian women would love to wear cool printed tights too, not only as fitness wear but as super comfortable every day wear and also double as a great fashion statement!”. According to the specifications, they are extremely versatile and ideal not only for yoga leggings but Pilates, cross fit, gym, Zumba, running, socialising and even surfing.

Kast Australia has now officially launched in the city famous for fun – the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia – and is excited to offer the fabulous Brazilian designed and made fashion fitness wear exclusively to the Australian and Asia Pacific markets.

Michael says, “We want to give everyone the opportunity to look and feel amazing in their workout tights, leggings and shorts.”

Kast pants are said to be the ultimate in comfort, durability and style, allowing ladies to embrace the most recent fashion trends in a quality, high performance fabric and design.

Having only ever been available in parts of South America, USA and Canada, Aussie girls are already logging onto the website to buy these quality printed tights. Happy customer, C. Lord from Melbourne, says “Great quality, never expected to wear printed tights but they are surprisingly flattering – will definitely be buying more styles!”

Laura P says “This is my first experience with patterned pants… I usually like to wear black workout clothes to “blend in” to the crowd, but seriously: life’s too short to wear boring clothes. They are super crazy comfy, dry faster than any of my other workout clothes, and stretch great for all types of workouts (I’ve worn them for weightlifting, cardio dance etc.). I won’t lie – I pretty much get home from work and put them on right away. They look good and feel good! Win-win!”

Kast Australia receives new Brazilian designs from the proud family run factory in Brazil every 8 weeks or so and update their website with every new release. Currently they have some bright, unique designs for shorts (mid thigh high leggings) ranging from ‘African Safari’ and ‘Neon Cheetah to ‘Lipstick’ and some recent capri (three quarter leggings) designs have some pretty cool names like ”Candy Skull’, ‘Playful Peacock’ and ‘Fun Fiji’. As the names suggest they are cheeky, colourful and fun designs – not a ‘Morticia-like’ plain black piece of clothing anywhere on the website.

Their top priority is selecting fabrics with quality and comfort in mind. Here’s some fun facts on how they do it: Kast fabric is a soft, comfortable and lightweight Supplex blend of 87% polyamide and 13% lycra (or spandex as they say in USA). The Supplex blend is proven to provide strength, colourfastness and durability. It also has a cooling effect, absorbs moisture, dries quickly and most importantly, is soft to touch. To add to the comfort, Kast sews flat seams and has designed a flattering flat mid-rise waistband to minimise muffin-top! Tights currently come in either light-weight or extra light-weight material, with some exciting new additions coming to the product range in coming months.

It’s a great time to be a fitness trainer, with Kast Australia revealing special pricing for their Instructor Program. If coaching clients also buy leggings, capris or shorts not only will they look stunningly stylish, they’ll also allow their personal trainer to receive incentives. See the website for details.

As well as the Instructor Program, Kast Australia has announced a Review Program where customers get money off their next purchase just for writing a quick review. All they require is a heading, a sentence or two and a ‘star’ rating out of five, making it a great incentive for bargain hunters.

Kast Australia are so certain that customers will love their products as much as they do, that they offer a money back guarantee on purchases.

Kast Australia is also seeking wholesalers to resell their products throughout the Asia Pacific market both online and in retail stores. Contact Michael via the website or click below for more information.

Just as a compliment planted the seed for this Australian business venture, it seems there’s going to be many more compliments in store for Australian women when they purchase their bright and bold Kast leggings!

New MakerBot Innovation Lab at Florida International University will provide innovators with a space to experiment and build out their ideas

Knight Foundation invests $185,000 in makerspace

MIAMI, FL – June 29, 2015 – Florida International University (FIU) will soon be home to a new, 3,000 square-foot MakerBot Innovation Lab, a collaborative makerspace for students and other innovators, to be housed at its Miami Beach Urban Studios. The lab is supported by $185,000 from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

Knight support will be used to create a MakerBot Innovation Lab of 3D printers and 3D scanners where public programs, private innovation explorations, and educational opportunities will be offered across all age groups. The lab will support a range of activities from dual enrollment programs for local high school students, to for-credit classes for FIU students and start-up programs for recent graduates. Community members can also use the space to develop new products, ideas and tools, conduct research or launch personal projects.

“This lab will foster integrated, interdisciplinary creative solutions establishing FIU as a national voice incorporating arts and design thinking into our curriculum,” said Brian Schriner, dean of FIU’s College of Architecture + the Arts. “Knight Foundation’s commitment to supporting local entrepreneurs and idea makers aligns with the college’s strategy to build community and widely benefit the city, while greatly enhancing its prominence in the world of innovation, design and arts.”

“Miami’s entrepreneurial ecosystem has seen enormous growth over the last few years – adding co-working spaces, mentor and funder networks, educational offerings and a host of events. But there are few established makerspaces where entrepreneurs can experiment and build,” said Matt Haggman, Knight Foundation’s Miami program director. “The MakerBot Innovation Lab will help to fill this gap, providing the next generation of Miami talent with a space to realize their ideas and inviting the community to connect toward building a stronger startup culture in our city.”

FIU Urban Studios will also collaborate with Miami Beach-based Rokk3r Labs, a unique platform for anyone, anywhere in the world to launch ideas that change the world. Rokk3r Labs will work with FIU to initiate workshops, seminars and other programming within the MakerBot Innovation Lab.

Miami Beach Urban Studios offers undergraduate and graduate students an opportunity to study in one of the most vibrant, artistic urban centers in the world for one semester, while gaining valuable professional experience at design firms, and by working with arts organizations throughout the city. Located in the Art Deco 420 Lincoln Rd. building, the Miami Beach Urban Studios gives students and faculty access to Miami Beach’s arts and design culture.

“College of Architecture + The Arts will be the only arts/design college in the nation to house a MakerBot Innovation Lab,” said John Stuart, AIA, associate dean for cultural and community engagement and the executive director of Miami Beach Urban Studios. “Our vision is that FIU will be recognized nationally at the forefront of innovative teaching, learning, engagement, research and creative activities and this lab will assist greatly in achieving this vision.”

Support to FIU’s MakerBot Innovation Lab is a part of Knight Foundation’s efforts to invest in Miami’s emerging innovators and entrepreneurs as a tool to build community, while fostering talent and expanding economic opportunity. Over the past three years, Knight has made more than 100 investments in entrepreneurship in South Florida.
