A new study reports that spinal manipulation by a chiropractor yields better results than medication administration in many cases. In a recent issue of The Spine Journal, the Center for Outcomes Studies at Western States Chiropractic College reported that headaches caused by pain derived from the cervical spine can be effectively treated with spinal manipulation.

The newly released study compared two doses of therapy, using several protocols to measure and compare pain grade, the number of headaches in the last 4 weeks, and the amount of medication utilized. Data was collected every 4 weeks for a 24 week period, and patients were treated up to twice per week and separated into treatment sessions. Half of the group received either spinal manipulative therapy or a minimal light massage (LM) control group. The results of the study revealed the spinal manipulation group obtained better results than the control group at all time intervals. There was a small benefit in the group that received the greater number of treatments with the mean number of cervicogenic headaches reduced by 50% in both pain intensity and headache frequency.

Morcellator Lawyers Tracey & Fox Report: Lawsuit Filed After Diagnosis Of Stage 4 Cancer

June 23, 2015 – – On January 26, 2015, Denise Whitfield filed one of the most recent complaints to claim that a power morcellator caused the significant worsening of an undiagnosed uterine cancer. Whitfield, a woman from Detroit, Michigan, brought her claim against Karl Storz, a manufacturer of medical devices with US operations based in California. Whitfield alleges that the use of Storz’s power morcellator spread an undetected uterine cancer throughout her body.

She filed her claim in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan under case number 2:15-cv-10352-TGB-APP. Court documents can be found at Tracey & Fox, a law firm that has followed the morcellator litigation closely.

In her lawsuit, plaintiff writes that she underwent a supracervical hysterectomy on June 14, 2011. The procedure, often performed using the non-invasive power morcellator medical device, was intended to remove fibroid and uterine tissue. She claims that Karl Storz’s Rotocut G1 power morcellator was used during her operation. The device employs a spinning blade to “morcellate” fibroid tissue, breaking the benign growths into small pieces for easier removal. But citing a recent safety announcement from the US Food & Drug Administration, Whitfield notes that morcellation comes with a substantial risk: the devices can also split up undiagnosed cancerous tumours, spreading the disease further.

Unfortunately, there is currently no reliable method of distinguishing between a benign fibroid and a cancerous uterine sarcoma. And while many morcellator manufacturers have downplayed these risks over the decades, the FDA has found that as many as 1 out of every 350 women who undergo a morcellation procedure may have a cancer that could be spread by a power morcellator. For many patients and public safety advocates, this risk is simply too high for morcellators to be considered safe medical devices.

Two years after her hysterectomy, Whitfield claims that she “underwent a mammogram examination […] that did not show any signs of cancer.” But on July 17, 2014, she rushed to the emergency room and was admitted for spinal surgery. It was during examinations that Whitfield would be diagnosed with cancer. According to court documents, she was told that tumors had metastasized to her bones and breasts. She is now battling Stage 4 cancer, and claims that her current prognosis is the result of an undiagnosed uterine sarcoma spread by Karl Storz’s power morcellator three years prior to her diagnosis.

Plaintiff claims that she has been forced to undergo “extensive and intensive therapies for the treatment and management of her advanced-stage cancer.” Her treatment currently includes “daily hormone medications, regular injections of medications by her physicians and multiple ten-week rounds of radiation therapy,” she writes.

Whitfield claims that Karl Storz possessed evidence of its power morcellator’s potential dangers, but “failed to disclose and warn of the [device’s] health hazards and risks.” In fact, she accuses the company of actively deceiving the health community and public by marketing the Rotocut G1 power morcellator as a safe and effective medical device.

In filing her complaint, Whitfield joins more than 20 other plaintiffs who accuse power morcellator manufacturers of producing and promoting medical devices that they allegedly knew were unreasonably dangerous to patients. As these women and widowed survivors add their voices to the morcellator litigation, many large health insurers have chosen to reduce or end their coverage of fibroid removal procedures that employ power morcellators. At least one manufacturer, Johnson & Johnson, has pulled its devices from the market completely. But while these measures may be enough to protect future patients, women who were already diagnosed with “upstaged” uterine cancer after morcellator procedures have chosen legal action in their search for justice.

The power morcellator attorneys at Tracey & Fox report that many women may be eligible to file their own claims. The Music Factory of Irving is Set to Open Its Door to Kabuki Japanese Restaurants

The Music Factory is one of Irving’s newest entertainment megaplexes, and as construction continues, more of their future tenants are being announced. One such future tenant is the Japanese Restaurant Kabuki. They are expected to arrive in the Music Factory around summer 2016. This casual dining establishment boasts over 200 different plates. They offer both traditional Japanese cuisine and modern and innovative dishes. Although many Japanese restaurants tend to overwhelm patrons with Asian music, artwork, and décor, Kabuki has a more subtle ambiance and features popular music selections without compromising the quality of their food.

Kabuki already has seventeen other locations throughout California, Nevada, and Arizona. This will be their first location in Texas, where they had been hoping to reach for quite some time. They will be taking up an impressive 6,000 square feet in the Music Factory. According to Hannah Grabe, the marketing manager of Kabuki, their CEO is thrilled to be able to expand into Texas and has been searching for the perfect opportunity to do so. He believes that the Music Factory has the right combination of innovative and dynamic tenants for Kabuki.

The creator of Kabuki’s extensive menu is the executive corporate chef, Masa Kurihara. He has included such delectable choices as sushi rolls, sashimi, various hibachi grill dishes, a number of noodle dishes, and several signature seafood dishes like the Chilean Sea Bass. Additionally, there are a number of gluten-free and vegetarian dishes to choose from. Kurihara graduated from the prestigious Tokyo Culinary School. He also had the honor of cooking for the Japanese Ambassador of the United States, and currently is helping train up young cooks that are a part of the Kabuki organization. He is known for his ability to perfectly use traditional Japanese cuisine with Western cooking techniques to produce the many uniquely fused dishes that can be found on their menu.

Although Grabe has stated that Kabuki is first and foremost a family-friendly restaurant, they also have options for the adult crowds and those who love sake bombs. For adult guests, there is a beverage menu that can be purchased from the table in the restaurant as well as the sake bar which is separated from the dining area. This drink menu was put together by Yuji Matsumoto, Kabuki’s own Beverage Manager. He was the first Master Sake Sommelier in North America and remains just one of two to hold such a title in the United States. He created a drink menu that centers primarily around sake with drinks such as Kabuki’s Mint Sakerita and TY KU Coco Saketini.

This new Kabuki restaurant is set to open in summer 2016 as soon as the mall is fully operational. There are a number of other fabulous dining and entertainment options that will be included with the opening of the Music Factory. The first restaurant that was announced was Gloria’s Latin Cuisine. This fine establishment is already well-known for their amazing South American dishes that are being served in their 12 other locations.

The Music Factory can be found between the U.S. Highway 114 and Las Colinas Boulevard. It is to the north of O’Connor and next to the Irving Convention Center. The Music Factory can be accessed by the DART Orange Line from throughout Irving. This megaplex will cost a total of $165 million to build, and also features a Live Nation concert venue that will seat 8,000 music lovers. There is also a cinema known as Alfamo Drafthouse Cinema being put in that will have 8 different screens that any movie lover will be sure to enjoy. 100,000 square feet of the Music Factory is being devoted to office space. In the future, patrons can expect to enjoy a 50,000 square foot outdoor plaza that will host everything from fashion shows to food festivals.
