Report Mirrors Mirena Pregnancy Lawsuits Stating There Is A Greater Risk For Spontaneous Abortion, Septic Abortion, Preterm Delivery and Serious Infection Known as Chorioamnionitis If IUD Is Not Removed.

September 21, 2015 – Mirena Pregnancy Lawsuit News: A report released by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) states, women who do not have an intrauterine device (IUD), such as Mirena, removed during pregnancy may be at risk to suffer spontaneous abortion, septic abortion, preterm delivery and a serious infection (chorioamnionitis). The report was on recommended practices in the United States for contraceptive use and issued by the CDC’s Division of Reproductive Health. It indicates that if IUDs are not removed during pregnancy, the developing fetuses may be exposed to the synthetic hormone, levonorgestral, used in IUDs including Mirena. One case series examining IUDs using levonorgestral found that when the birth control device was not removed, eight in 10 pregnancies ended in spontaneous abortions. Mirena pregnancy lawsuits claim women suffered serious infections, miscarriages, ectopic pregnancies, preterm delivery, and death of their child after the device was unable to be removed during pregnancy. “The report also notes that removing the IUD improves pregnancy outcomes if the IUD strings are visible, but there are times when the strings cannot be found and the IUD cannot be removed during pregnancy,” says Dr. François Blaudeau, an attorney and a practicing obstetrician/ gynecologist who founded Southern Med Law.

The law firm has been investigating Mirena pregnancies and birth injuries since women and their families started contacting Southern Med Law with reports of ectopic pregnancies, miscarriages and death of their babies believed to be due to a Mirena pregnancy . Southern Med Law has filed a Mirena lawsuit against Mirena’s manufacturer, Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals, on behalf of an Alabama family whose baby boy died 36 hours after birth on August 5, 2012. According to the Mirena complaint, the Mirena device remained during the pregnancy because the strings could not be located. The baby was born prematurely and suffered from a right-sided diaphragmatic hernia, pulmonary hypertension, degenerated right pulmonary artery, a large patent ductus-arteriosis (PDA), and persistent fetal oxygenation, according to the Mirena claim. Mirena was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2000 as a long-term birth control system that prevents pregnancy for up to five years. The small, T-shaped IUD is implanted in the uterus and releases a low dose of a synthetic form of progestin called, levonorgestral. The flexible, plastic IUD is recommended for women who have had at least one child. The Mirena IUD is used by nearly 2 million women in the United States and is over 99 percent effective in preventing pregnancy, according to Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals.

Mirena is also facing IUD lawsuits from filed by women who have purportedly suffered perforated uterus and organs, pelvic pain, and other serious complications due to the Mirena birth control system. Eight years ago we capitalized on an opportunity to embark on this challenge. Our goal, to ultimately secure the entire scope of supply that Camfil could potentially provide using our state-of-the-art technology. The containment project will bring expansion to the Washington facility which specializes in proprietary metal housings, carbon, and molecular filtration. Areas of growth include the renovation and construction of a state-of-the-art laboratory and quality assurance unit, other building enhancements such as specialized helium chambers, and sustainable economic gains in employment and contractual business. The partnership, scheduled to launch in fall 2015, took years of planning and cultivation. Dallas federal criminal defense firm Broden Mickelsen Helms & Snipes outlines four major differences between Texas state and federal courts.

Thousands of people are charged with criminal offenses and processed through court systems throughout the U.S. each year. For those seeking a caring criminal defense attorney for their case, one thing that is critical to obtaining the best legal defense is knowing that there are stark differences between how state and federal courts operate. According to the Dallas based criminal defense attorneys of Broden Mickelsen Helms & Snipes, identifying whether one’s charge is for state or federal court when a client initially calls a criminal defense firm for assistance should be important to any criminal lawyer for four key reasons:

1. First time offenders are subjected to harsher punishments in federal court – Says the firm “Often, the results for the defendants charged in state court are dramatically different than the results for the defendants charged in federal court. Indeed, it is not unusual for a defendant charged with a drug offense or child pornography offense in state court in Dallas County to be placed on probation and a defendant charged with the same or similar offense in federal court to be sentenced to ten years or more in prison.”

2. The reason for the difference is that federal court sentencing is done under a different set of guidelines which scores offenses and criminal history based on a grid system.

3. There are limited options in federal court for dismissing or winning a trial – The firm says that in counties in the state of Texas for example “a defendant charged in state court can make a presentation to the grand jury in an attempt to convince the grand jury not to indict them in the first place. Such presentations cannot be made to federal grand juries and it is rare that a federal grand jury will refuse a prosecutor’s request to return an indictment.”

4. There are less options in federal court than in state court for individuals who have been convicted – According to the firm “…suppose a defendant receives a ten-year sentence in state court and a different defendant receives a ten-year sentence in federal court. The defendant in state court might be paroled after serving only a couple of years of his sentence. On the other hand, parole has been abolished in the federal system and defendants serve 85% of their sentences.”

5. There are fewer defense attorneys who have experience with cases involving federal crimes – On the final issue the firm asserts, “Because the federal system much more complicated, only a small percentage of criminal lawyers can effectively represent a defendant in federal court. Indeed…a defendant charged with a crime in federal court must carefully question his lawyer regarding the lawyer’s experience in federal court and ask the lawyer to give them a printout from the PACER system showing the number of defendants the lawyer has represented in federal court.”
