Educational Building Toy Company Click-A-Brick Praises New Netflix STEM Series Aimed At Girls

The team at educational building toy company Click-A-Brick are pleased to see a new initiative from Netflix that is aimed at getting more girls interested in the science, technology, engineering and math fields in the form of an original live-action show.

A new, original, live-action Netflix miniseries called Project Mc2 aimed at getting more girls interested in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields has the team at educational building toy company Click-A-Brick excited about its potential.

Mc2 follows the exploits of four teenaged girls who are recruited by a secret spy agency to help save a planned rocket launch using their STEM skills. The characters and actresses playing them are: McKeyla McAlister, played by Mika Abdalla, Adrienne Attoms, played by Victoria Vida, Bryden Bandweth, played by Genneya Walton, and Camryn Coyle, played by Ysa Penarejo. The series also stars real-life mathematician Danica McKellar, who starred in The Wonder Years television show.

“It shows you can be smart and cool,” co-executive producer Shauna Phelan said in an interview with the Associated Press. “You can be smart and funny. You can be smart and stylish, and those things are not mutually exclusive in an individual. It would be amazing if we had a younger demographic look at these girls and realize, ‘I love these super smart girls and I want to be like them.’”

A second miniseries about the STEM-loving girls is already planned, and a set of dolls based on the series’ four protagonists is already available. The dolls come with their own science experiment kits.

The Click-A-Brick team, retailers of educational building toys, say Netflix is the perfect platform for reaching Project Mc2’s target audience and introducing them to STEM concepts in a fun way.

“There are plenty of camps and workshops aimed at getting girls interested in the STEM fields and they all deserve a lot of credit,” Click-A-Brick Co-Founder Jason Smith said. “But, this is another avenue to reach that target market and Netflix is a platform that basically everyone is familiar with. It gives girls heroes they can identify with and emulate in a fun little show where the girls save the day using their intelligence and STEM skills. Hopefully it will lead to more media like it.”

Introducing a doll line to correspond with the show was also a nice touch, the Click-A-Brick team says.

“The dolls give girls something tangible to associate with the show and we love that the dolls each come with a science experiment kit,” Click-A-Brick Co-Founder and Brand Manager Georg de Gorostiza said. “They’re more akin to action figures, really, but the action here is outsmarting the bad guys using science. We think it’s a great message to send to girls and a great way to possibly get them interested in the STEM fields.”

The Tropical Real Estate Investors Association Discusses The Impact of Dodd-Frank on Closings

Under the new procedures as a result of the Dodd-Frank Act, four documents will be merged into two. The Good Faith Estimate and Truth in Lending disclosures will be eliminated and combined into a new single Loan Estimate form, or “LE.”

Palm Beach County, Florida – September 21, 2015 – Along with Dodd-Frank came sweeping reforms to the Mortgage Industry. The new rules implement various Dodd-Frank sections and amend several existing regulations, including Regulations Z, X and B, which implement the Truth in Lending Act, Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act and Equal Credit Opportunity Act, respectively. The Ability-to-Repay (ATR) and Qualified Mortgage (QM) Standards rule has received the most attention. It is intended to protect consumers from irresponsible mortgage lending by requiring that lenders follow strict procedures for determining that prospective borrowers can actually repay their loans.

In addition, a new mortgage servicing rule is intended to establish stronger protections for homeowners facing foreclosure, while new loan originator compensation rules address practices that promote steering borrowers into risky or high-cost loans. The CFPB also finalized rules to strengthen consumer protection for high-cost mortgages and instituted a requirement that escrow accounts be established for a minimum of five years for certain higher-priced mortgage loans, among the other provisions.

Real Estate Investors need to be up-to-date in their knowledge of the new rules. Here is an outline of the new rules: First, the Loan Estimate must be delivered to the prospective buyer no later than 3 business days after receiving the application. Currently, the HUD-1 Settlement Statement can be presented to the buyer on the day of closing and any changes to the statement can take place during the loan closing. Under the new rule, the biggest change is that the Closing Disclosure must be provided to the consumer a full 3 days prior to the closing, and if there are changes during that 72-hour period, the closing could be delayed. This delay can cost the investor his tenant, a higher rate when using hard money financing, delayed payment to contractors, etc…

The best tip for getting in front of a perceived problem with the new 72 hour period, is to be ready to close 7 days before the actual contracted closing date. Working closely with your lender and the title company will be a huge benefit in accomplishing this. Investors often buy properties with city fines and liens, HOA problems. Be sure your contact address the possibility of additional extensions due to the time it may take to clear the title and comply with the new rule. In closing, the goal of these changes are to protect the consumer, which is always a good idea. Work smart in your business to avoid the pitfalls for the new (HUD1a) until everyone is on the same page and it becomes routine with no delays.

8 Tips for Dental Emergencies

Problems in the mouth and surrounding areas can be more than just uncomfortable, they can be extremely painful and potentially lead to additional problems.

Oral discomfort can happen any time or anywhere. True dental emergencies require a visit to the dentist in order to successfully prevent further complications. Here are step to apply immediately after the dental emergency occurs, before seeing the dentist:

1. Losing a permanent tooth: It is very important to avoid touching the root of the tooth. Place the tooth in a cup of milk to recover it and seek a dentist immediately.

2. Cold sores and canker sores: Medication for these can be purchased at a pharmacy, but if it does not go away, professional dental help should be employed.

3. Jaw injuries: The mouth should be secured by keeping it shut with a towel tied around the head. Then seek medical attention.

4. Excessive bleeding after losing a baby tooth: A piece of gauze should be positioned where the tooth is missing. The bleeding should subside after the gauze is bitten down upon for about fifteen minutes. If the bleeding continues seek a dental professional immediately.

5. Toothache: Carefully and thoroughly clean around the sore tooth. Rinse the area with warm (not hot) salt water. If the pain continues longer than twenty-four hours, see your dentist. This could be a sign of a greater problem.

6. Chipped, cracked, or broken tooth: The entire area should immediately be cleansed with warm, not hot, water. Next, apply a cold compress to the affected facial area. If there are any missing pieces of the tooth, they should be placed in a cup of milk. Then, go directly to the dentist.

7. Bitten or cut mouth areas: If there is any swelling or bruising, ice should be applied immediately. If there is excessive bleeding, a sterile cloth should be placed on the area. If the bleeding persists, quickly go for help from a medical professional.

8. Orthodontic Emergencies: Know that it is very common to experience discomfort with braces. Acetaminophen can be used to alleviate this discomfort. Most wire irritations can be relieved by removing the wire from the irritated area with a sterile cotton swab. If the irritation persists, immediately seek an orthodontist. Most other orthodontic emergencies will need to be handled by your orthodontist quickly.

It is best to call the dentist before going to see them for a dental emergency to avoid wasting time in the waiting room. Calling the dentist immediately after a dental emergency occurs could save additional pain and costs.
