Xarelto Lawsuit Update: Number of Internal Bleeding Lawsuits Continues to Rise

September 25, 2015 – – BloodThinnerHelp.com reports today on the rising number of internal bleeding lawsuits that are being filed in the Xarelto federal multidistrict litigation. As of August 17, 2015, a total of 1,231 lawsuits have been filed in the Xarelto MDL in the Eastern District of Louisiana. These numbers show a huge increase in the total number of lawsuits filed, as of July there were only 805 lawsuits consolidated in the MDL and back in June there were only 500. The MDL is presided over by Judge Eldon Fallon and the Eastern District of Louisiana is located in the city of New Orleans. A motion was made to form the MDL because there was a rising number of lawsuits that all made similar allegations against the same defendants, the manufacturers of Xarelto, Bayer AG and Janssen Pharmaceuticals, a subdivision of Johnson&Johnson. By consolidating these cases into an MDL, the entire litigation process is streamlined and will move faster for everyone involved. Forming an MDL also saves on judicial resources and speeds up the settlement process if there is one.

In addition to the MDL, there is also a Mass Tort Group in Philadelphia where about 400 Xarelto lawsuits are currently consolidated. The number of lawsuits consolidate in the Mass Tort Group and the MDL continue to rise.

Lawsuits Allege Xarelto Linked to Serious Side Effects:

Xarelto was released onto the United States market after being approved by the Food and Drug Administration, FDA, in 2011. Xarelto was initially approved to treat patients who suffered from atrial fibrillation, deep vein thrombosis, and for patients who had recently undergone a hip or knee replacement surgery. Since its release, several studies have linked Xarelto to cause severe internal bleeding which can lead to serious injuries and even death. This internal bleeding is serious because Xarelto does not have an antidote to counteract its anticoagulant effects. If a patient is taking the traditional blood thinner Warfarin and experiences an internal bleed, doctors can administer Vitamin K and the patient’s blood will clot. If a patient is taking Xarelto and experiences an internal bleed, there is no available medication to stop the bleeding. Many patients taking Xarelto have been seriously injured in this way and have even died.

Many of the Xarelto lawsuits filed allege that Xarelto’s manufacturers were aware of the serious risks associated with the drug yet put the blood thinner to market anyway. The lawsuits also allege that the manufacturers deliberately concealed this information from doctors and patients, claiming in advertisements that Xarelto was a safe drug.
