According to Toronto Tourism, the area has 25 million tourists visiting every year, accounting for $1 billion in revenue for the accommodations industry. This means that luxury hotels have to change their offerings to continue to keep their share in the market. The Four Seasons is being proactive with features such as an ‘app that will soon let guests log customized personal preferences, from room temperature to pillow firmness.’

But pillow customization may not be enough to check guests into the hotels. Then they can adjust their firmness as they desire to fit their bodies.”

Xarelto Lawsuit Claims Drug Caused Death Of Vermont Man

November 30, 2015 – – BloodThinnerHelp.com reports on another Xarelto lawsuit which was filed against the drug’s manufactureres in connection with the death of a Vermont man. The case, number 2:14-cv-00159-CR ,was filed by the daughter of the deceased in a Vermont federal court. Allegations within her suit claim that the uncontrollable bleeding, which led to her father’s death, was caused by the blood thinner Xarelto.

Details further explaining this case state that the plaintiff’s father was prescribed Xarelto to treat his atrial fibrillation condition. Atrial fibrillation can cause complications such as blood clots and strokes, so blood thinners are commonly prescribed to individuals with this condition in order to prevent these occurrences. After using Xarelto just a short time, the man became injured and started to bleed. He was hospitalized at this time, as physicians diagnosed him with a parenchymal hemorrhage. The medical staff was unable to stop the man’s bleeding due to the fact that he still had active Xarelto in his system. They tried to keep the man alive, which they managed to for just 6 days before he ultimately passed away due to blood loss.

In her complaint, the plaintiff indicates that she and her father had never been made aware of one of the most dangerous aspects of Xarelto: the drug has no corresponding antidote. Because of this, when someone taking the drug begins to bleed, physicians cannot counter the effects and get their blood to clot. In these cases, doctors must resort to life-saving measures such as blood transfusions in an attempt to save the individual’s life. More traditional blood thinners offer the antidote of vitamin K. If someone using a traditional blood thinner begins to bleed, doctors can treat them with vitamin K, which counters the medicine’s effects and allows their blood to clot. For this reason, Xarelto is considered by many to be the most dangerous blood thinner on the market.

This lawsuit was filed against manufacturers Janssen Pharmaceuticals (a division of Johnson & Johnson), and Bayer AG. It alleges that they were reckless and negligent by marketing a drug for which there was no corresponding antidote, and which poses so many uncontrollable bleeding dangers.

At this time, Xarelto lawsuits have surged to number over 1,700 cases in federal court, which have been consolidated to form multidistrict litigation number 2592. As these cases await trial, it is expected that others will be filed. Zofran Lawsuit Update: Physicians Continue To Prescribe Drug “Off-Label”

November 30, 2015 – – ZofranLegal.com reports that as litigation surrounding anti-nausea drug Zofran continues to move forward, many physicians are still able to presrcibe the drug “off-label” to expectant mothers, a group for which the drug has never been safety tested on and has never gotten FDA-approval to treat. Despite this fact, the drug has been prescribed to an estimated 1 million pregnant women over the last year, and lawsuits linking this usage to birth defects in the unborn children continue to mount.

Zofran was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 1991 to treat individuals dealing with severe nausea and vomiting episodes after undergoing radiation therapy, chemotherapy, or anesthesia. Allegations in the many lawsuits surrounding the drug state that despite this specific approval, manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline proceeded to market the drug to expectant mothers and OB/Gyns across the country as a treatment for nausea associated with morning sickness. Shortly after this marketing campaign began, however, GSK allegedly began to receive reports of children being born with birth defects if exposed to Zofran through their mothers while developing in utero.

Over the last two years, lawsuits have continued to be filed and add up, each commonly alleging that Zofran use by the mother has caused an unborn child to be born with severe defects. Most commonly, the defects noted are kidney defects, clubfoot, ventricular septal defect and atrial septal defect, transposition of the greater vessels, cleft lip and palate, and respiratory stress disorder. Several plaintiffs have claimed that their children passed away due to the severity of their birth defects, others have noted that their children required multiple corrective surgeries. Today, many of the plaintiffs involved in the current litigation wonder why the drug has continued to be prescribed to pregnant women.

As these plaintiffs await trial, it is anticipated that additional cases will appear. Alicia Lyttle Gives Inspiring Speech at Women’s Entrepreneurship Day Conference

KINGSTON, JM – Making up a panelist of five speakers, Alicia Lyttle had some encouraging words for her female counterparts at the Women’s Entrepreneurship Day (WED) Breakfast. The event was held at Club Twenty-three in New Kingston on the 19th of November and saw the ladies discussing the topic, “A Game Change for Women Entrepreneurs.”

Lyttle is the CEO of top local internet marketing company, Internet Income Jamaica, which trains Jamaicans on how to earn an income by leveraging the power of the internet, as well as its social media sister company, POW Social, which manages the social media efforts of a number of top brands.

Sharing the stage with several other stalwarts, who have excelled as women entrepreneurs, she informed the largely female audience that there were many opportunities for women entrepreneurs in Jamaica and that they needed to work together in order to build each other. Lyttle also highlighted the importance of women entrepreneurs networking among themselves in order to increase their chances of game-changing success.

“I go to as many networking events and conferences as possible because I get golden nuggets from all of these different resources and I put them together to create my own gold bars of knowledge,” said Lyttle.

In addition to Lyttle’s encouraging words, the audience also received valuable takeaways from the other panelists who were on hand. They included A. Cecile Watson, WED World Ambassador, Leisha Wong from Kingston Kitchen, and Katrine Smith, infoDEV WINC Consultant. Valuable insight was also provided by keynote speaker, Luis G. Moreno, the United States Ambassador, as well as Audrey Tugwell Henry, Senior General Manager, Retail Banking, who underscored the National Commercial Bank’s support of women entrepreneurs by stating, “NCB is committed and experienced and we are ready to take your business on the path of success.”

Also present was Minister Julian Robinson and Thalia Lyn, founder and Chief Executive Officer of Island Grill, who both gave inspiring speeches.

WED has become a staple on the local and international calendar and is observed during Global Entrepreneur’s Week. The theme for this year’s observation was ‘EmpowHERed to Innovate’, highlighting the contribution of female entrepreneurs. Alicia Lyttle’s significance in being part of the proceedings stems from her efforts resulting in the training of hundreds of Jamaicans who earn an income by working online.
