Xarelto Lawsuit Plaintiffs Claim Manufacturers Misleadingly Marketed Blood Thinning Drug

In court documentation, the plaintiff indicates that Xarelto was fraudulently marketed, with commercials that focused primarily on the drug’s benefits and failed to adequately discuss the dangers. In addition, many have noted the use of famous celebrities in Xarelto commercials, which commonly spotlight successful athletes of the past and present. The plaintiff is requesting damages exceeding $50,000, and financial coverage for any legal fees he might incur.

Xarelto lawsuits have been filed in large numbers from across the United States. Today, in federal court, there are over 2,800 Xarelto lawsuits which have been consolidated by the U.S. JPML to form MDL Number 2592. In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as well, another group of over 550 cases has been consolidated to form a mass tort group by the Court of Common Pleas. All of the Xarelto lawsuits filed in each grouping share strikingly common allegations against the same defendants, which claim that Xarelto use can put patients at increased risk for serious and sudden bleeding episodes. In addition, several studies have now linked the drug to increased risk of different types of bleeding episodes.

Cases involved in the MDL are being overseen by the Honorable Judge Eldon Fallon and are expected to continue to grow in number as they await further trial preparations. Bellwether trials for these cases are currently scheduled for early 2017.
