Invokana Lawsuit Plaintiff Claims Diabetes Drug Caused Development Of Diabetic Ketoacidosis Condition

March 30, 2016 – – TheProductLawyers.com reports on a lawsuit which has been filed against Johnson & Johnson subsidiary Janssen Pharmaceuticals regarding their new-generation, type-2 diabetes drug Invokana. The complaint was filed under case number 1:15-cv-00636 in the Southern District Of Alabama. The plaintiff filing alleges that she has linked her use of Invokana to her subsequent development of potentially life-threatening diabetic ketoacidosis condition. Additional court document details indicate that the plaintiff also alleges that she began to take the drug in December of 2014, and developed diabetic ketoacidosis shortly after this.

Diabetic ketoacidosis can cause patients to enter comatose states or even die if it remains untreated. It occurs when the body’s bloodstream contains a surplus of toxic acid (ketones). It has been noted to develop as quickly as within 24 hours, and may be able to appear without the marked warning sign of significantly high blood sugar.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) noted this potential concern during a public safety warning. They indicated that patients who use Invokana or other similar SGLT2 class inhibitor drugs should remain vigilant in watching for potential signs of the development of diabetic ketoacidosis. The Mayo Clinic states that these signs can include, “excessive thirst, frequent urination, nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain, shortness of breath, fruity-scented breath, and confusion.”

Additionally, the FDA has issued a public safety notice discussing the possible link between Invokana and the development of diabetic ketoacidosis among patients, and has required Janssen to make necessary changes to the product’s warning labels in order to better reflect potential side effects for patients considering the use of the drug.

This plaintiff’s lawsuit claims that she was never made aware of the potential risks of developing diabetic ketoacidosis if using Invokana. She alleges that manufacturer Janssen Pharmaceuticals (Johnson & Johnson) showed negligence by failing to effectively warn consumers regarding these possible dangerous side effects.

Xarelto Lawsuit Claims Include Increased Risk of Hemorrhagic Stroke

March 30, 2016 – – BloodThinnerHelp.com reports on analyses claiming the blood-thinning drug Xarelto puts patients at risk for hemorrhagic stroke (strokes caused by bleeding in the brain). During a hemorrhagic stroke, a weakened blood vessel ruptures. There are two types of weakened blood vessels that usually cause those types of strokes, according to The American Stroke Association. Those weakened blood vessels include aneurysms, which is a region of the blood vessel that balloons outward, and an arteriovenous malformation, which is a cluster of abnormally formed blood vessels. Both can cause a blood vessel to rupture and lead to bleeding in the brain.

Xarelto was first introduced to the United States in 2011 when it was approved by the FDA for preventing blood clots and deep vein thrombosis in patients undergoing knee and hip replacements, atrial fibrillation, and for general use in reducing the recurrence of blood clots, and stent thrombosis in patients with acute coronary syndrome. Since then, thousands of lawsuits have been filed against the manufacturers by patients who claim that the drug caused negative side effects about which the companies failed to thoroughly inform them. Some of the side effects that plaintiffs have associated with the drug are gastrointestinal bleeding, brain hemorrhages, internal bleeding, rectal bleeding, pulmonary embolisms (blood clots in the lung), epidural hematoma, stroke, and heart attacks.

Lawsuits concerning Xarelto that have been filed federally have been consolidated into part of a multi-district litigation panel in Eastern Louisiana that has now reached 2,800 cases.

Prophecy Proposes Issuance of Units for Debt and Share Consolidation

(“Linx“), a company controlled by Mr. John Lee, Executive Chairman of Prophecy, and Mr. Lee pursuant to which, the Company has agreed, subject to the approval of shareholders at the Company’s upcoming 2016 Annual General Meeting to be held at 9:00 a.m. (PST) on June 2, 2016 (the “2016 AGM“) and acceptance by the Toronto Stock Exchange (“TSX“), to issue 75,000,000 units (the “Units“) at a deemed price of $0.02 per Unit to Mr. Lee, in satisfaction of $1,500,000 of indebtedness currently owed by the Company to Linx under the revolving Credit Facility Agreement dated March 12, 2015, as amended. Each Unit consists of one Common share in the capital of the Company (a “Share“) and one Share purchase warrant (a “Warrant“). Each Warrant entitles the holder to acquire an additional Share at a price of $0.04 per Share for a period of five years from the date of issuance.

In addition to providing cash loans to the Company through Linx, Mr. Lee has also personally participated in both of the Company’s equity financings in 2015. The proposed debt settlement significantly reduces the Company’s debt leverage and further aligns management’s interests with the Company’s.

The Company also announces that it proposes to consolidate its issued and outstanding Shares on the basis of one (1) new Share for every one hundred (100) old Shares outstanding (the “Consolidation“) subject to the approval of shareholders at the Company’s 2016 AGM and acceptance by the TSX. The effective date of the Consolidation, if approved, will occur immediately after TSX approval.

The Company further announces that it has entered into a subsequent consulting agreement with Cor Capital Inc., who has agreed to provide certain investor relations and shareholder communication services to the Company in exchange for the issuance of 300,000 Common shares through the Company’s Share-Based Compensation Plan which was approved by shareholders at the Company’s annual general meeting of shareholders held on June 19, 2014. There are no further fee commitments (in cash or shares) to Cor Capital Inc. for its service to the Company.
