Attorneys At Millar & Mixon Celebrate National Dog Bite Prevention Week

The third week in May was National Dog Bite Prevention Week. The attorneys at Millar and Mixon celebrated this week hoping that awareness about the dangers of dog bites and how to prevent them would spread.

June 7, 2016 /MM-prReach/

The third week of May was National Dog Bite Prevention Week, a period of time in which the American Veterinary Medical Association works to raise the public’s awareness on the steps that can be taken to prevent a dog from biting.

As many veterinarians will tell their clients, any dog, even the nicest ones, can and will bite. However, with proper care and a recognition of the warning signs, many of these attacks can be prevented.

The first step begins not with a potential victim but with the owner of the dog. From the moment that a dog has been adopted, the owners should consult with their veterinarian on the best way to socialize it. Many dog bites happen not because the dog is aggressive but because they are afraid. Socialization takes time and patience, but by exposing the dog to new environments and people they will be less likely to react out of fear.

Those who are around a dog that is not their own should keep a few key safety tips in mind. These include requesting the owner’s permission before approaching a dog, avoiding yelling, running, or making sudden movements which can cause a dog to exhibit negative behaviors, leaving a dog alone who is eating or resting in its crate, and teaching children to never pull the dog’s tail, ears, or fur.

Every year, nearly 4.5 million Americans are bitten by a dog. Around 25% of these attacks will result in serious injuries that may require hospitalization and surgical correction. Victims often find that they are suddenly suffering under the weight of growing medical bills with nowhere to turn to for help. The attorneys at Millar & Mixon hope that by encouraging the public to learn more about how they can protect themselves and their loved ones, the number of dog attacks will grow smaller each year.

Pradaxa Settlement In Lieu of Trial Leaves Xarelto Lawsuit Plaintiffs Hopeful For Similar Results In MDL

June 07, 2016 – – TheProductLawyers.com reports on the status of the current Multidistrict Litigation (MDL 2592) that consolidated the more than 2,800 Xarelto lawsuits filed against the subsidiary company of the Johnson and Johnson Corporation, Janssen Pharmaceuticals, and Bayer AG. The MDL is being overseen by the Honorable Judge Eldon E. Fallon in the Eastern District of Louisiana.

The plaintiffs involved in all the cases in the MDL are making similar allegations against the drug’s manufacturers that the blood thinner Xarelto can induce very sudden and spontaneous internal and external uncontrollable bleeding that has resulted in many fatalities. Judge Fallon has set a target date of spring 2017 to commence the first 4 bellwether trials against the defendants to be selected out of a pool of 40 cases. As the MDL inches toward the beginning of the litigation process, 400 more cases have been added to it just in the month of August 2015 alone.

The cases that are the focus of the MDL are not the only ones that are progressing forward as a group litigation. The Court of Common Pleas in Philadelphia, PA has created a mass tort program comprised of 550 cases with all of them naming Janssen and Bayer as defendants, claiming similar allegations related to uncontrollable bleeding.

Xarelto plaintiffs are somewhat encouraged in their efforts based on actions taken with Pradaxa, also a new-generation blood thinner drug that experienced the same kind of public scrutiny that Xarelto is now getting. Pradaxa was released on the market by Boehringer Ingelheim in 2010, and it quickly became the focus of more than 4,000 lawsuits because of thousands of adverse event reports that were filed, 750 of which were reporting fatalities. Xarelto plaintiffs are hopeful that what happened with Pradaxa will happen in their situation as on the eve of the start of the trial against Pradaxa’s manufacturer, it announced a $650 million settlement in lieu of going to trial.

The attorneys of Banville Law, the firm behind TheProductLawyers.com, are offering complimentary consultations to anyone who suffered injury or hospitalization after a bleed while on Xarelto. For more information about this release or the Xarelto litigation call 888-997-3792.

Extensive Damage To Home Caused By E-Cigarette Explosion As E-Cig Lawsuit Filings Increase

June 07, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com provides details on reports of electronic cigarette explosions that have caused injury and damage to users and their property. Arizona news station ABC 15 covered the story of a man who was driving when his e-cigarette reportedly exploded in his pocket. The flames spread, he claimed, down his leg leaving serious burns, and his hand also suffered burns when he used it to try to put out the fire. He also called home, screaming over the phone to his young daughter that he was on fire. The man’s wife spoke to ABC 15 about their wish that the traumatic story of her husband’s ordeal will make other e-cigarette users aware of the dangers. In addition to his traumatic experience and injury, the whole family was affected by the e-cigarette explosion and resulting fire. “We know like 20 people,” she said, who use electronic cigarettes, and she was concerned that those people might also experience similar problems with their devices. Her husband sustained extensive burns during the event and was sent to the hospital for treatment.

From the same news station comes another, similar story. Unfortunately, this one involved extensive property damage after an e-cigarette exploded. Fire department estimates put the woman’s home damage resulting from the fire that the explosion started at over $100,000. Phoenix Fire Department has stated that more of these types of incidents are occurring, and is warning e-cigarette users of the dangers of the devices following an increase in the number of fires on their watch. The investigators, in this case, found that the woman’s e-cigarette cartridge overheated while charging, starting the fire that eventually caused so much damage.

Attorney Marc Freund of Lipsig, Shapey, Manus & Moverman is looking to assist victims of e-cigarette explosions to assist them in exploring their legal options. Those who believe they have been harmed by an e-cigarette are greatly encouraged to explore their legal options in the matter, as they may be entitled to significant compensation. To better assist individuals who wish to investigate their rights more fully, Attorney Freund is now offering free legal consultations to qualified parties.

To ask questions or request additional information on e-cigarette explosions, please contact Attorney Marc Freund of Lipsig, Shapey, Manus & Moverman by calling 877-711-9545.

Oregon Pipeline Tragedy Signals Response From Construction Accident Lawyer

June 07, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com’s Thomas Moverman commented on a recent development in Oregon where a construction worker was presumed dead while working on a pipeline project. Moverman indicated that the frequency of construction worker-related deaths is extremely concerning. He pressed on to emphasize that without further regulation there is no evidence to suggest a decrease in fatalities, in fact, if the conditions stay the same, the number of fatalities per year is expected to increase.

As reported by The Toledo Blade, the victim, who was from central Michigan, was installing a pipe when he was suddenly pinned between the pipe and heavy machinery. Additionally, the report states that the assistant area director for the Toledo office of the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) confirmed that the agency was aware of the incident and has initiated an investigation.

OSHA, a federally mandated agency, has the mission of ensuring health and safety standards for all workers in the United States. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) indicates that there was an increase of nearly 250 fatal occupational injuries from 2013 to 2014. The BLS’s data also signals that the number of fatal work injuries in 2014 is the highest number of deaths since 2008. Their report also indicates that private construction had the highest number of fatal injuries in 2014 and that 19 percent of all fatalities occurred in the private construction industry.

Lipsig, Shapey, Manus, & Moverman are currently facilitating free legal consultations to all individuals who have been affected by construction accidents. The firm focuses on providing each customer with extensive legal advice and exemplary service. Attorney Thomas Moverman and the other attorneys at the law firm have had great success representing victims of construction accidents. In one case, they helped their client secure a $ 1,780,000 compensation for damages from a slip and fall.

For more information on construction injuries, or for a consultation, contact an attorney with Lipsig, Shapey, Manus & Moverman at (646)-846-4496.

Pradaxa Settlement Lends Encouragement to Xarelto Lawsuit Plaintiffs As Judge Fallon Oversees MDL

June 07, 2016 – – TheProductLawyers.com reports on the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (JPML) and its decision to consolidate 2,800 lawsuits filed against the manufacturers of Xarelto, a new-generation blood-thinning drug. Janssen Pharmaceuticals, a subsidiary of corporate giant Johnson and Johnson, and Bayer AG are the defendants in all the cases. All plaintiffs involved are alleging strikingly similar complaints that the drug precipitated spontaneous and fatal uncontrollable internal and external bleeding.

The cases under the MDL 2592 are swiftly progressing toward trial under the direction and supervision of the Honorable Judge Eldon Fallon in the Eastern District of Louisiana. Judge Fallon set a deadline of January 11, 2016, to have 40 cases compiled in a pool from which 4 would be selected as bellwether trials to begin sometime in the spring of 2017. It is expected that the number of cases will continue to expand, as in the month of August 2015 alone, 400 more were added to the MDL for litigation.

The plaintiffs in the Xarelto cases are encouraged by actions taken with a formerly released blood thinner called Pradaxa, also a new-generation blood thinner. Pradaxa was released in 2010 by its manufacturer Boehringer Ingelheim. Faced with 4,000 lawsuits emanating from more than 3,500 adverse event reports of which 750 were focused on fatalities from the use of the drug, Boehringer Ingelheim opted to negotiate a settlement of $650 million to those plaintiffs who filed claims against the corporation rather than face trial. Plaintiffs in the Xarelto cases are hopeful such a settlement will be proposed by Janssen and Bayer AG.

The MDL cases are not the only ones that have been consolidated for consideration. Another group of 550 cases, also all against Janssen and Bayer, are being heard in a mass tort group in Philadelphia, PA consolidated together by the Court of Common Pleas.

The attorneys of Banville Law, the firm behind TheProductLawyers.com, are offering complimentary consultations to anyone who suffered injury or hospitalization after a bleed while on Xarelto. For more information about this release or the Xarelto litigation call 888-997-3792.
