Woman Suffers Uncontrollable Bleeding, Files Lawsuit Against Xarelto

June 06, 2016 – – TheProductLawyers.com reports that a lawsuit was filed by a Texas couple in the Eastern District of New York. The lawsuit, filed under case number 1:14-cv-04524, was filed before being transferred to a multidistrict litigation (MDL 2592) consolidation in Eastern Louisiana after a decision handed down by the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (JPML). The plaintiffs in this particular case have alleged that the defendants in the case, Bayer AG and Janssen Pharmaceuticals, the latter of which is a subsidiary of the Johnson and Johnson Corporation, failed to sufficiently warn patients and medical professionals of the life-threatening risks related to the use of Xarelto, the anticoagulant medication they were taking.

The female plaintiff alleges to have only used the drug for about 5 months when she suffered a very quick onset of internal bleeding. She was prescribed Xarelto by her doctor to treat her atrial fibrillation and to prevent against the risk of stroke, as she was told her medical condition left her susceptible to having a stroke. The plaintiff has also stated in her court filing paperwork that she still has issues with bleeding that have created some enduring medical problems.

Xarelto has been on the market for approximately 5 years. During that time, it has become the focus of numerous lawsuits all across the United States. The drug was very popular with patients since it offered some benefits that blood thinner medications before it could not provide. Today, however, controversy swirls about the drug, as over 3,400 lawsuits have been filed. Xarelto Manufacturers Face Lawsuit From Texas Woman

The female complainant in this case was prescribed Xarelto by her doctor because she was at an increased risk of having a stroke due to atrial fibrillation. She also states that because of the bleeding it has left her with some serious long-term health issues as well.

In February, a CNN news release covered another leg injury, this time to a Kentucky man whose e-cigarette exploded in his pocket while at a gas station, resulting in severe burns to his right thigh. Flames covered his lower body, but this victim had a stroke of good fortune. When his explosion caught the attention of an employee at the station, the employee says that he promptly responded and put out the flames with a fire extinguisher. His quick action likely saved the Kentucky man from serious harm which could even have cost him his life.

As with the Queens woman, it was also in his pocket and severely burned his right thigh. CNN reported that, if not for the gas station worker who said he quickly used a fire extinguisher to put out flames covering the victim’s lower body, the man would likely have received life-threatening injuries from the e-cigarette fire.
