As E-Cig Lawsuit Filings Increase Fire From E-Cigarette Explosion Causes Damage

June 05, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on the news of another e-cigarette explosion which caused damage to an Oklahoma residence when a fire quickly spread. A Tulsa, Oklahoma man reportedly experienced an e-cigarette explosion that resulted in a call to the fire department as his laptop, lamp, window shades and more all caught fire. The device reportedly exploded during charging, according to NewsOn6.com of Oklahoma. The victim stated that he was washing dishes, and noticed the explosion when he saw a sudden flash off to the side, in the corner of his vision.

The man’s e-cigarette was only a few months old, purchased as a substitute for cigarettes both for health and economic reasons. He hoped to use the e-cigs to help him quit smoking, and thought it was a financially smart choice since e-cigarette supplies are less expensive than cigarettes: “two or three dollars” for supplies versus six dollars for a pack of cigarettes, he reportedly said. While he was charging the electronic cigarette from his laptop USB port, the explosion occurred. He was fortunate to be nearby and able to take quick action in calling the fire department before further damage took place.

Sadly, other stories are accumulating, tales of tragic outcomes from e-cigarette explosions in pockets, charging at home, and even while in use. In North Carolina, a man claims to have had his e-cigarette explode in his face. He was temporarily blinded and experienced other serious facial injuries. He spoke of “hot oil” hitting his face, which was the e-cigarette “juice,” the flammable fluid which these devices consume. These devices and the potential danger they present are attracting increasing attention.

Attorney Marc Freund of Lipsig, Shapey, Manus & Moverman is looking to assist victims of e-cigarette explosions to assist them in exploring their legal options. He is currently offering complimentary consultations to affected parties and states that some individuals may be entitled to financial compensation.

Death of 23-Year-Old Construction Worker Prompts Comment From Construction Accident Lawyer

June 05, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com’s Thomas Moverman stated recently that the death of a 23-year-old construction worker serves as a tragic reminder of the dangers construction workers face daily. Moverman noted that these accidents happen far too frequently and that the death of the young man should serve as a catalyst for change in the construction industry.

Kiro 7 reported last week that the construction worker, who was hit in December while flagging traffic spent a month in Harborview Medical Center and four months at a transitional facility following the accident. The man had suffered a broken leg and serious head injuries from the accident. He died of his injuries last week.

Overall, transportation incidents accounted for 40 percent of fatal workplace injuries in 2014, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Within the transportation event category, 57 percent of the fatal work injury total in 2014 involved roadway incidents. The second largest number of transportation fatalities in 2014 involved pedestrian vehicular incidents, which totaled 17 percent. Other injuries common at construction sites include broken or fractured bones, lacerations, brain injuries and spinal injuries.

The attorneys of Lipsig, Shapey, Manus & Moverman have been fighting for the rights of construction accident victims since 1989. E-Cigarette Lawsuit Filings Continue As Former Firefighter Wounded In E-Cig Explosion

June 05, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on a recent e-cigarette explosion that occurred in Jacksonville, North Carolina. A news release from JDNews.com outlines the disturbing story of an e-cigarette explosion that occurred for a local Jacksonville gentleman. The victim is 54-years-old and claims that he chose to smoke e-cigarettes in an attempt to reduce the intake of toxins he had previously consumed through cigarettes.

“My eyes were burning,” the victim said. “It was like a bunch of hot oil hit my face.” Luckily for the man, he is still able to see, although he does have trouble looking at light out of his left eye, and has sought treatment from an eye doctor. The man has claimed that he wants to educate the public so that other e-cigarette consumers are aware of the potential dangers that the devices present.

FEMA has stated that there have been 25 occurrences of e-cigarette explosions since 2007. They have also clarified that in most scenarios the lithium-ion battery was the source of the explosion due to a voltage overload. They also indicated that 4 out of every 5 explosions occurred while the e-cigarette was charging. When the voltage is too high it causes an overload of energy inside the battery which prompts the device to essentially self-destruct and explode which can cause devastating physical and emotional damage to victims.

More recently, a Kentucky resident sustained 3rd-degree burns when his e-cigarette exploded in his pocket while he was in a convenience store. Luckily a bystander was able to transport the victim to a nearby hospital, where he received treatment. There are an estimated 3.5 million e-cigarettes being used currently, and with the popularity of these devices on the rise it is likely that more explosions will occur.

Attorney Marc Freund of Lipsig, Shapey, Manus, & Moverman is looking to assist victims of e-cigarette explosions. He encourages anyone who has been harmed by one of these devices to explore their legal options as some individuals may be entitled to financial compensation. He is currently offering complimentary consultations to affected parties.

E-Cigarette Explosion Causes Damage To Oklahoma Home, E-Cig Lawsuit Filings Increase

June 05, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com provides commentary on the story of another e-cigarette explosion that occurred in Oklahoma. NewsOn6.com reports more in depth on the recent e-cig explosion and notes that a local Tulsa man was charging his e-cigarette in the USB port on his computer when the explosion occurred. The victim was in the other room doing dishes, and luckily out of the corner of his eye he noticed a stream of light coming from the other room. That stream of light happened to be a fire which had set his shades, furniture and computer ablaze.

The victim claims that he often utilizes his computer to charge his e-cigarette, and luckily he was not in the room when the device exploded. FEMA has concluded the cause of most of these incidents is the lithium-ion battery that powers many e-cigs. They have also indicated that 80 percent of explosions resulting from e-cigarettes occur when the device is charging. This happens when the voltage is too high causing an overload of pressure within the device, which in turn causes the release of energy seen as an explosion.

Thankfully for the Tulsa native, he was able to call the fire department to subdue the flames before the fire destroyed his entire house. However, there have been a number of other e-cigarette explosions since the devices have been made publically available. E-cigarette explosions have occurred across the U.S., in states such as California, Texas, Idaho and New York as well as in the United Kingdom. In one case, a woman from California was driving to the airport while charging her device, when suddenly the device exploded in the car. She was awarded a 1.9 million dollar settlement after filing suit.

In an attempt to help individuals who have sustained injuries from e-cigarette explosions attorney Marc Freund of Lipsig, Shapey, Manus, & Moverman is offering legal advice to victims. Freund is offering free consultations so that they may fully evaluate their legal rights. He also notes that some individuals may be entitled to financial compensation, and encourages all victims of these devastating explosions to seek proper legal counsel.
