So far, there are mainly 5 types of search results that are currently being used. These are the Organic Search Results, Featured Snippets, Local Results, Ads Results, and Knowledge Graph Results. Let’s discuss each one of them below.

(1) Organic Search Results

This is the one you are most familiar with. These are natural or non-paid results most searchers are exposed to. This type also has 5 subtypes: Default organic listings, Social listings, News listings, Images, and Videos.

Default organic listings

This is probably the most important type of search result when it comes to ranking organically. It is because most users prefer this type over sponsored or paid.

Make sure you use structured data markup on your website so that your listings will be displayed in rich snippets. When your search result is in a rich snippet, there’s a higher probability that your target audience will choose it from the list of results.

Social listings

This type of listing often appears when a searcher types in a popular personality in Google. If you are a brand, then it is important to have a presence on Twitter and other social networking sites as well.  Although Google is adamant in confirming that social media is part of their overall search algorithm, independent study and experiments reveal otherwise.

For a higher probability for your business to appear in a social listing, it is recommended that you have a verified social network account. To verify your Twitter account, you must know first if your account is eligible for the verification process.

News listings

If you have an active press release campaign, getting your content in this type of search results is very important. To make sure your content will get better ranking, you need to submit your press releases in high authority news websites.

Image listings

Other than the regular image listing (for example for the search query Dallas), Google now also display an array of images on the first page of the search results. When you click on these images, you’ll be redirected to another Google page where you can have direct access to the source link of the image.

Getting your images on that array can be very useful in driving traffic to your website. Always remember to optimize your images for search engines by uploading the right sizes and submitting the correct tags and descriptions.

Video listings

A video can be a very engaging content. Having your tutorial video get displayed on top of the search results opens up opportunities and can drive more traffic and leads. Google usually returns video results for how-to search queries, so make sure to create videos that answer the needs for this type of audience.

Make sure you optimize your video for search engines to rank it on the top. The video listing shown in the screenshot above shows that you need to use the right keywords, titles, and description to make your video appear on the uppermost part of the search result.

App listings

If you are an app developer or if your business just released an app to increase your visibility on mobile platforms, then getting your app displayed in this listing can help a lot in getting more people to see and download it.

(2) Featured Snippets

These are search results that are displayed with very detailed descriptions and graphics. Search results like these have higher click-through-rate because they look very convincing. There are two subtypes of featured snippets: the travel box and the rich answers.

Travel Box

This type of search result is very useful for travelers because it provides a graphical answer to their queries. Airline and transportation companies can benefit from these through the public transportation tab wherein searchers can look up which bus or airline is flying to a specific destination.

If you are a transportation company, you may join Google’s transit partner program to get your establishment listed.

Rich Answers

This type of search result is actually very beneficial to your website. Imagine the increase in click-through-rate every time your content is featured as a rich answer. This gives you more traffic, thus increasing the chances of getting more leads and conversions.

Make sure to check your analytics and find out what are the typical how-to questions used by your website visitors before they arrive on your web page. From that data, you can create content that can completely answer their queries.

(3) Local Results

These are search results that answer local or mobile related queries. It has two subtypes: the local pack and the local knowledge graph panel.

The Local Pack

If you are a local business, then this type of results should be the focus of your optimization efforts.  Getting your business name at least on the featured top 3 can help a lot in boosting your traffic and leads.  Once you clicked the More places at the bottom, you will be brought into another page wherein more local options are available.

You can see in the screenshot above that there are more pizza stores being listed in there and there are 2 filter options (Rating and Hours) to specifically meet your prospects’ preference.

You can only get your business appear on this type of search results once you successfully claimed your Google My Business listing.  If you haven’t setup your profile yet, then go to this page.  Make sure that your business information is complete and free from errors.  Once you’re done setting up and your profile has been approved, you can start asking your current customers to rate your business so that you can gain positive reviews.

Local Knowledge Graph Panel

This type of search result specifically answers queries about local brands.  The panel on the right side features photos and complete details of the establishment address.  It also put a link that redirects to its main website, and at the bottom, you can see the latest reviews left by its customers.

To have a result like this when someone searches for your business, you should have a profile in Google My Business listing.  Also, it is highly recommended that you get more citations from local review sites and directories.  Don’t forget to ask your customers to leave great reviews.  It matters a lot to your prospects.

(4) Ads Results

These are paid or sponsored search results wherein a disclaimer or a yellow icon (Ad) below its title says that it’s not an organic listing.  As of the moment, there are 5 subtypes of Ads results.  They are the AdWords ads, the Google Shopping results, the Google Flight results, and the Hotel ads results.

AdWords Ads

These ads results appear on top or at the bottom of the search results.  You need to have an AdWords account and run an ad campaign if you want your business to appear on this type of listings.

Google Shopping results

Google used to also display this type of search results along with organic listings but as of the moment, you can only find them when you click the Shopping tab.  This is quite beneficial if you are running an ecommerce website or an online store.  To get listed, you need to have an AdWords and a Merchant Center account.  Click here to get started.

Google Flights results

This type of search results appear along with organic listings every time someone enters a query with an intent to book for a flight ticket.  It usually appears as a box that contains a list of airline choices, date of flights, estimated length of travel, and possible ticket prices.

For more flight choices, the user can click the Flights tab on the top menu.  He/she will be redirected to a page wherein a more comprehensive list of available flights is displayed.  This type of search result can benefit airlines, travel companies, and airline distributors.

To be considered in this listing, you need to contact the ITA.  Google receives a sort of a commission for every successful booking from these search results.

Hotel Ads

The same with Flight ads, Hotel ads listing also appears with organic search results.  Searchers can instantly book a hotel without leaving Google through the hotels’ booking partners.  To get your hotel displayed in this type of search result, you should advertise with Google through their Hotel Ads program.

(5) Brand Knowledge Graph Panel Results

This type of search result is compelling and powerful.  When someone searches for your business using your brand keywords, it brings more authority when the result is like that one in the screenshot above.  You need to have a complete profile in Wikidata and Wikipedia to get your brand listed.  Also, make sure your website uses the right schema markups and that your social profiles are verified.

Jury awards $72 million to estate of woman who died of talcum powder related ovarian cancer. The drug litigation attorneys at Osborne & Associates help others in the same situation.

A St. Louis jury awarded $72 million in damages in a talcum powder lawsuit for a woman who claimed her longtime use of  products containing talc caused the ovarian cancer that eventually killed her, reports the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The state court jury found in February the company failed to warn the public and conspired to hide the truth about the risks talcum powder could cause ovarian cancer, reported drug litigation attorney Joseph Osborne, whose firm was not involved with the case.

Given the size of the talcum powder lawsuit verdict,  the health care giant based in New Jersey, is expected to appeal in hopes of overturning the verdict or at least reducing the damages award. The plaintiff is the estate of Jacqueline Fox who died at age 62 of ovarian cancer after an estimated 35 years of using the defendant’s products.

The verdict for the plaintiff was for $10 million in actual damages and $62 million in punitive damages meant to punish the  pharmaceutical company for trying to cover up the link between talc and ovarian cancer. It’s been estimated there are at least 1,200 pending lawsuits by women who claim their ovarian cancers were caused by talcum powder.

The trial took more than three weeks but the jury only needed about five hours to come to their decision. After the verdict, talcum powder lawsuit jury member Jerome Kendrick stated the defendant’s internal documents used as evidence influenced him to vote for the plaintiff. Kendrick said the company tried to cover up the dangers of talc and influence government boards regulating cosmetics that use talc. He said the jury came to the $62 million total for punitive damages by multiplying $1 million by the number of years Fox lived.

The plaintiff’s attorney stated that internal memos showed the defendant spent thirty years preparing for litigation due to the cancer risk posed by talc. He claimed one document discussed declining product use due to increased awareness of the health risk and more products could be sold by targeting African Americans (which Fox was) and Hispanics as the highest users of talcum powder.

The talcum powder suit involving Fox’ estate involves 58 plaintiffs with more individual trials coming. Not all of the plaintiffs have the same damages as some were successfully treated for ovarian cancer while others died of the disease.

The American Cancer Society estimates about 22,280 women in the country will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer this year and about 14,240 women will die of the disease. An epidemiologist who testified for the plaintiff claims about 10% of ovarian cancer deaths are linked to talc use. A pathologist testified talc was found in Fox’s ovaries which resulted in inflammation which later caused her cancer.

The defendant is one of the world’s largest companies involved in personal care products, pharmaceuticals and medical devices. The company started in 1886, has more than 265 operating companies across the globe employing 126,500 people and from 2010 to 2014 it earned $16.3 billion in profits from $74.3 billion in sales.

There’s not all these lanes cutting in and cutting out and lights and people pulling out into your lane of travel so you’re much safer on a highway,” says Spear.

He says motorcyclists shouldn’t assume vehicle drivers can see them. They may be on the lookout for other vehicles, not motorcycles, especially at night. “Daytime driving is critical. If you can avoid driving at night that’s what you should do. It is so dangerous to drive at night and so difficult to see a motorcycle. You want to wear bright colors and have your lights on. You want to take whatever precautions you can to make sure that the public sees you so other drivers have enough time to avoid a collision with your motorcycle.”

“Full face helmets should be worn. Please, please, please wear your helmet even if it’s just a short distance because statistics show that many of these accidents occur on smaller roads as opposed to the highway,” Rand says.  “Wear your helmet, your jacket, the gloves and the boots. They offer a measure of safety. They’re not a fashion statement so you should wear them at all times to protect yourself.”

Spear suggests newer motorcyclists ride smaller motorcycles and learn how to control them before buying a larger, heavier motorcycle. He also says motorcyclists shouldn’t rely on how loud their bikes are to get the attention of vehicle drivers. Like drivers of all vehicles, motorcyclists need to allow themselves enough distance in front of them in order to stop safely.

With the warmer weather there are not only more motorcyclists but more potholes. “The potholes can be so dangerous. I have handled several cases where there was a giant pothole in the road and the motorcycle operator was not aware of it, came upon it and it basically caused him to lose control of the bike,” he says, “You really want to operate at a very safe speed so you can maintain control of that motorcycle in all situations. If you come across a pothole or something that doesn’t look safe give yourself the opportunity to slow down and determine if you’re able to get around it safely.”

The law office of Andrew D. Stine has filed and successfully won many appeals over the past 14 years. Recently, the District Court of Appeals of the State of Florida Fourth District (4^th DCA), agreed with Palm Beach County defense attorney Andrew D. Stine, when he successfully argued that Palm Beach County Circuit Judge, Lisa S. Small, denied due process to Mr. Michael Vaught when she entered an injunction against him in a domestic violence case.

On April 20, 2016, the 4^th DCA issued its ruling and specifically stated that the injunction entered against the husband, Mr. Vaught, was entered in violation of his due process rights, because as the law requires allegations made by one seeking an injunction swears to facts in an affidavit, but did not provide the affidavit to the “respondent” in a reasonable time before the final hearing. In this case, the husband was not allotted enough time for him to retain legal counsel and as such, the injunction for violence must be set aside.

While the facts of all injunctions are very similar in that the petitioner, the one seeking the injunctive relief, will usually allege that the respondent, the one whom the injunction goes against, had either battered, assaulted or stalked the petitioner. This appellate decision holds that circuit courts are bound to give proper notice and time to the respondent, so that effective counsel may be obtained, so that the respondent may have proper time to obtain witnesses and enough time to properly prepare their cases for the final hearing.

In matters involving injunctions from abuse, judges liberally enter “temporary orders” prohibiting the respondent from any contact with the petitioner until a final hearing can be heard. So, the presumption of wrongdoing committed by the respondent is easily obtained with a brief signature of a judge, who has not heard any of the facts, but instead only read a sworn affidavit made by the petitioner seeking the injunction from abuse. Under the rules of civil procedure, the judge may also liberally set the cause for a “final hearing,” which in this case occurred within three (3) days after the respondent got served the injunction. Therefore, there was no time to obtain counsel, subpoena witnesses, gather evidence and properly prepare for the final hearing.

On the day of the final hearing, the respondent appeared without counsel. Respondent requested that the judge grant him a continuance, so he could have time to find a lawyer. The judge denied his request and made the respondent proceed without counsel and then entered a permanent injunction against  him.  Respondent immediately obtained West Palm Beach criminal attorney, Andrew D. Stine, who filed an emergency motion for re-hearing. In the motion for re-hearing attorney Andrew D. Stine argued that the respondent’s due process rights were violated, when he did not have time to obtain counsel and the judge made him proceed pro-se, (acting as his own lawyer). Moreover, appellate attorney Andrew D. Stine also argued that the more prudent thing to do would be to continue the “temporary injunction,” which keeps the wife safe, until the respondent could have found competent counsel and then proceed to a final hearing. The judge disagreed and denied the motion for re-hearing.

But the 4^th DCA agreed  wholeheartedly with attorney Andrew D. Stine and specifically opined that “[any injunction shall be extended if necessary to remain in full force and effect during any period of continuance” and that “the respondent’s right to due process, because he was given neither notice of the allegations upon which [the petitioner] sought relief, nor a full and fair opportunity to prepare to meet those allegations was violative of due process.

This appellate decision in Michael Vaught v. The inferior vena cava is the largest vein in the human body. It’s formed by the joining of the two common iliac veins at the level of the fifth lumbar vertebra in the spine and returns blood to the right atrium of the heart from bodily parts below the diaphragm, explains Boca Raton medical injury attorney Osborne.

The filter, which is a cone shaped set of wires, is surgically placed in the vena cava of those who are at risk of pulmonary embolism. That is the sudden blockage of a major blood vessel in the lung, usually by a blood clot. In most cases these clots are small and not life threatening, but they can damage the lung. If the clot is big enough it can stop the blood flow to the lung which can be fatal.

Retrievable IVC filters were designed to protect people temporarily from suffering a pulmonary embolism by preventing the movement of blood clots into the lungs. Permanent filters have long term side effects these filters were designed to avoid, however, many of these removable IVC filters are mistakenly being left in place too long or indefinitely.

The federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a safety warning in 2010 (which was updated in 2014) recommending that physicians caring for those with IVC filters consider removing them when the danger of a pulmonary embolism or a blood clot has passed. The FDA took this action because of possible long-term complications from IVC filters, including death due to a filter breaking up, moving within the body or poking through the vena cava.

The dangers of IVC filters reached the public’s attention in September of last year when NBC News ran a story of injuries caused by their use. They reported,

·           At least 27 deaths and 300 injuries have been connected to these IVC filters.

·           Some of the injuries reported in the story included a filter breaking up with parts reaching one patient’s heart or the entire filter reaching another patient’s heart causing his death.

NBC News reported that after injuries and deaths became known the manufacturer hired a public relations firm to lessen their impact on the company and its sales (34,000 were sold before an improved version was introduced) spending its resources to protect its image instead of protecting its patients.

The company also hired an outside physician study of the filter and resulting injuries and deaths. The results, intended to be confidential but obtained by NBC News, were that these IVC filters had higher rates of relative risk for death, filter fracture and movement than all its competitors. “Further investigation is urgently warranted,” the author wrote. NBC found that the manufacturer had known for years about high risks of serious injuries and deaths due to its IVC filters.
