Emergency Tourniquet Kit By First Aid Shoppe Has Risen To The Top 10 On Amazon

May 31, 2016 – – First Aid Shoppe, providers of specialized first air and survival gear and kits, announced today that their ResQue 1st Trauma Kit With SWAT-T Tourniquet has risen to the top 10 for the tourniquets category on Amazon. The ResQue 1st Trauma Kit With SWAT-T Tourniquet is an advanced emergency tourniquet that is intended for use in a bleeding emergency. It contains key items that can be used to stabilize a victim in a severe bleeding situation.

“We’ve broken into some rare territory,” says Anna Loehwing, COO of First Aid Shoppe. “With the release of this kit we moved steadily upward on Amazon toward that spot, and now that we’ve arrived we’ve been holding steady. This is a very popular kit, as it’s compact, easy to keep on hand, and it has the key items needed to handle a really bad bleeding injury right on the scene.”

The items in the kit include an Advanced Clotting Sponge, employing a hemostatic (clotting) agent used by police and first responders, along with the SWAT-T tourniquet (Stretch Wrap And Tuck), so named for the Special Weapons And Tactics teams it was also intended for. The tourniquet wraps high in the groin or armpit area, and is used to clamp down on and reduce or stop arterial bleeding. Together these two items can treat most sources of severe bleeding, the idea being to stabilize a victim until help can arrive.

“This kit is for when the chips are down,” says Ms. Loehwing. “It’s not a general first aid kit, and it doesn’t have band aids. This is not for a skinned knee or a bug bite. This is for when you’ve got a real situation and help is still minutes away and you need to do something fast. With the items in this kit you might very well save a life.”

The Trauma Kit With SWAT-T Tourniquet by First Aid Shoppe has reached the top 10 for its specific category on Amazon. It comes with a full manufacturer satisfaction guarantee.

Facial Nerve Injury In TBI: Smile Early Or Smile Late

greg.jpg

Sacramento, CA, SubmitPressRelease123/

The second most common cause of facial nerve (FN) palsy is trauma and is most often caused by a temporal bone fracture.  Approximately two to three percent of patients who are hospitalized with a traumatic brain injury (TBI) have an associated FN injury and in cases where there is a temporal bone fracture approximately ten percent of those will have a FN injury.

Temporal bone fractures occur by blunt force to the head caused by high velocity motor vehicle accidents, motorcycle accidents, assaults, or falls.  The FN is particularly vulnerable in the temporal bone as it travels three centimeters through various bony segments.  A sudden loss of FN function related to a TBI suggests a transected nerve by a bony fragment while a progressive or delayed loss in function suggests impingement of the nerve by swelling in the bony canal, a hematoma causing compression, or direct pressure from a fracture fragment.

All patients with a head injury must be tested for a FN injury by careful neurological exam because timing of intervention is often dictated by the physical findings on initial presentation.  The findings of a FN injury on physical exam may reveal subtle one-sided facial weakness with mild difficulty closing an eye to complete paralysis of one side of the face.  Ear examination is absolutely necessary in the case of a suspected head injury and findings consistent with a hematoma or frank blood in the ear canal, hearing loss, or vertigo is consistent with a suspected FN injury.

Neurological deficits depend on the location of the FN injury and the severity of injury to the nerve.  Recovery depends on several factors including if the nerve was severed and the degree of compression on the nerve.  Unlike, Bell’s Palsy that represents the most common cause of FN neurological deficits, the timing of surgical intervention is controversial in the case of a traumatic FN palsy.

Urgent decompression of the FN is required in the case of a progressive deficit in the setting of a temporal bone fracture causing pressure on the FN.   Therefore, it is imperative that the FN is examined on presentation since documentation on presentation determines if there is a need for a temporal bone decompression surgery versus observation.  Early versus delayed decompression of the FN caused by a temporal bone fracture is controversial in a partial FN injury when there is 90% loss of FN function compared to the non-injured side.  Partial injuries with less than 90% loss of FN function generally have a good prognosis with observation alone.

Penetrating trauma to the face or neck that suggest transection of the FN outside the temporal bone segment requires surgical exploration with a goal of either providing direct end to end repair of the transected nerve versus short segment nerve grafting for larger nerve segment loss.

Patients with complete lesions or those with partial lesions with an unacceptable outcome require consultation with a peripheral nerve surgeon at a recognized center of excellence preferably within four months from the original trauma. It is generally believed that early intervention with peripheral nerve surgery in appropriately selected patients will lead to better outcomes.  Options include cross-facial nerve grafting, nerve transfers, and partial hypoglossal nerve to facial nerve transfers.  Options after two years are limited to muscle transfer procedures since nerve grafting will not work because the muscles will not be responsive to nerve repair after two years following nerve injury.

Academic Physician Life Care Planners are essential for the injured person with a FN injury.  Acceptable facial appearance and function can be salvaged with early intervention at a center of excellence for FN palsy with the capabilities that includes temporal bone decompression surgery by an otolaryngologist, peripheral nerve surgery by a neurosurgeon, and muscle transfers by a facial plastic surgeon. Patients with FN palsy will require a life care plan that may include psychological intervention, facial plastic surgeons, ophthalmology, Botox, and medication management for depression and nerve related pain.

How to Get Compensated for Property Damaged After a Car Crash, Part Two

4-Mistakes-Often-Made-When-Negotiating-Car-Accident-Settlements-_-By-a-Los-Angeles-Car-Accident-Lawyer-Resource.jpg

New York City, 05/20/2016 /SubmitPressRelease123/

Once you contact a Los Angeles car accident lawyer, it’s vital for you to start preparing everything you need to prepare for filing your claim. In our first post in this series, we discussed the importance of taking pictures, documenting everything in an accident diary and preparing to wait for your vehicle to be repaired. There are a few additional things you should be doing as well.

Here at CarAccidentCases.com, we’ve worked with many auto wreck victims who had damaged property, and it’s important to note that your car is not necessarily the only thing that can be included in your settlement. Let’s talk about what to include in a settlement claim, even if your vehicle was totaled and is beyond repair at this point.

Your Personal Property

The personal property you had with you in your vehicle at the time of the accident should be compensated for by the other driver’s insurance company. That means the values of these items should be included in your claim. Take photos of everything that’s of value so that you can demonstrate that it was damaged, and find receipts if you’re able to. If you don’t have receipts, you can try contacting the stores where you bought the items to get copies. A few items that might fall into this category include digital cameras, cell phones, computers, car seats and GPS systems.

Replacing Your Vehicle

Some accidents are serious enough that they result in totalled cars. If this is the case for you, you have a right to request a replacement vehicle. Please keep in mind that replacing your vehicle after an accident does not mean that you will get a brand new car. Your vehicle will be assessed for the value prior to the crash, and you should expect to get that amount of money once your settlement has been negotiated.

If you enjoyed this series on property damage after a car accident, and you want to learn more about filing a claim, please refer to our series entitled, Understanding Your Personal Injury Settlement for your Car Accident.

At CarAccidentCases.com, we’re always sharing valuable articles that we feel can enhance your knowledge as you work toward getting a resolution for your claim. As a victim, it’s vital for you to work with a knowledgeable Los Angeles car accident lawyer. Please check back often for more on the following topics:

Genomix Nutrition Launches Nutrigenomic Testing Platform

Austin, TX, 05/31/2016 /SubmitPressRelease123/

Genomix Nutrition, Inc. Launches Nutrigenomic Testing Platform and Empowers Providers With The Ability To Provide Nutritional Support Based On An Individual’s DNA
The completion of the human genome project in 2003 brought tremendous opportunities for optimizing human health, but with this information has also led to more questions among patients and healthcare providers. Can genetic variations (polymorphisms) lead to long-term health issues? How can these genetic weaknesses be bypassed? And, how can clinicians use genetic information to help people achieve a better quality of life through nutrition?
Genomix Nutrition, Inc, a nutrigenomic testing company, is ready to provide patients and healthcare providers answers. No longer will genetic variations define an individual’s future health status. With the launch of a simple cheek swab, this testing platform and nutritional support application will help healthcare providers offer answers to their patients to bypass their genetic weaknesses through personalized and appropriate nutrition. Through genetic analysis and scientific algorithms created by a team of medical experts, this platform will offer an easy-to- read nutrigenomic report that not only shows a patient’s genetic SNPs but offers recommendations on how to overcome these genetic weaknesses in 5 key metabolic areas.*
Beyond Methylation
Methylation is a process that is required by every cell and is responsible for over 250 biochemical processes in the body. The term methyl refers to one carbon molecule attached to three hydrogen molecules and is essential for many processes, like building and repairing DNA, clearing toxins and helping with nutrient absorption at the cellular level.
An individual’s genetic makeup helps determine how, and if, certain nutrients are methylated and delivered properly. Small genetic weaknesses, known as Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (or SNPs), can greatly impact the methylation pathways and potentially contribute to negative long-term health issues. Beyond methylation, there are 4 other key genetic categories that are essential to health and that need to be addressed along with methylation. These key areas include mitochondrial function, neurotransmitter production, detoxification and inflammatory response.
The Surge of Individualized Medicine Brings Clarity To Patients & Providers
Scientific advances have allowed, at an affordable price, virtually anyone the ability to know their genetic makeup and how it may impact their health. With the introduction of the Genomix Nutrition platform, health care providers now have the ability to test, analyze and recommend nutritional support by knowing a person’s SNPs in 5 key areas within 26 genes.
“Nutrigenomic testing has forever changed the landscape of nutritional supplementation and functional medicine. By genetically identifying the enzymatic and functional protein weaknesses present in any individual, we, as professionals, can accurately identify the exact nutritional needs of that patient. Nutrigenomics, because of its scientific method, allows better functional outcomes for patients without the risk and financial burden of “over supplementing”. Genetic testing has also allowed us to develop more complete and targeted supplementation formulas. This profound tool will become the standard for practitioners who recognize the power of proper nutrition in health and wellness. I am personally thrilled to be part of this exciting advancement in medicine.” – Kendal Stewart, MD / Chief Science Officer
The Genomix Nutrition Platform Can Help Improve Patient Satisfaction and Health Success Rate By:
Determining each patient’s unique genetic-based metabolic needs in the analysis of 26 genes
Providing the professional a detailed genetic report that outlines the nutritional supplement/s needed for each specific polymorphism
Taking the “guesswork” out of complex biochemical pathways
Suggesting compressed nutritional formula options for better patient compliance and cost effectiveness
Providing the necessary tools to build the provider’s knowledge base and expertise in this field
The Genomix Nutrition Goal Is To Provide:
  • The Right Supplement/s in
  • The Right Amount for
  • The Right Indication for
  • The Right Patient at
  • The Right Time.*
For more information please visit www.GenomixNutrition.com or call (844)258-5564. Nutritional guidance is provided by Neurobiologix Supplements.
