California State University, Fullerton Students Deliver Plan for Trans-American Road Rally for Prostate Cancer Awareness

July 28, 2016 – – Irvine, California, – Prostate cancer is the most common male cancer and kills almost 29,000 American men every year. A team of students from the Practical Advantage Communications program at California State University, Fullerton spent 8 weeks developing the event and press plan for the Cancer Journeys Foundation’s 2017 Tour de USA® Road Rally for prostate cancer awareness. The Tour de USA® Road Rally, scheduled for mid-August to September 4th, 2017, will be the longest Road Rally held in the United States.

Practical Advantage Communications is a student-run Agency that serves at the capstone course for students in the advertising, entertainment and tourism communications, and public relations concentrations. The Tour de USA project students were: Ombeline Armand, Allen Fernandez, Quentin Loritte, Charles Nguyen, and Andrew Soto. Mazda Motorsports funded the project and will be providing the MX-5 Miatas that will cross the US in 2017.

“This student team did an absolutely remarkable job on this project,” said Robert Hess, founder and president of the Cancer Journeys Foundation. “We were searching for a really unique project to highlight the importance of prostate cancer testing given the recent rise in advanced prostate cancer cases. We brought this idea to our student team and they just ran with it. The team came with an unbelievable level of creativity and energy,” said Hess.

“There are more than 2 million prostate cancer survivors in the United States right now and 240,000 men learn they have prostate cancer every year. Prostate cancer is highly treatable if found early but, unfortunately, almost 29,000 men die each year of prostate cancer because they didn’t know they had the disease early enough. The Cancer Journeys Foundation created ProstateTracker, a free Internet-based detection system, so that men don’t get caught with a late diagnosis,” said Hess.

According to Hess, “Road rallies are very popular and are a great way to have fun and see the US. The 2017 Tour de USA rally will be the longest road rally every held in the US. I’m really looking forward to taking my MX-5 across the US. I may even try and run the Dustball Rally.”

36-Year Old California Man Dies In Tragic Steel Beam Accident, Generates Response From Personal Injury Lawyer

July 28, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on an incident as reported by SFGate.com during which a 36-year old construction worker from Sonoma was crushed by a steel beam. The fatality occurred while an A-Frame tent that was part of the VIP Lounge at the BottleRock Festival was being dismantled. As the tent was being broken down, an arch fell and hit the man. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead after being rushed by paramedics to the Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa. An investigation is ongoing by California OSHA investigators to see if any safety regulations were breached.

The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) is a federal regulatory agency that has the onerous task of ensuring the safety of American workers at over 8 million worksites across the country. OSHA has 10 regional offices, and 90 local-area offices in various locations in the United States. As per OSHA, in 2014 the deaths of more than 500 workers were attributed to the “Fatal Four” which the agency identifies as the 4 leading causes of death of construction workers.

As per the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), in 2014 the third leading cause of death for construction workers was individuals being struck by objects or equipment, as was the scenario in Napa. Workers fatally injured after being hit by objects or equipment, one of the “Fatal Four”, totaled 73 individuals in 2014 which equates to over 8 percent of all construction work-related deaths.
