Car Fire Caused By E-Cig Explosion, As Number Of E-Cigarette Lawsuit Cases Grows

July 22, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on a news story from Chicago’s WGNTV.com about an e-cigarette explosion that in all likelihood was the culprit of a large car fire in a Chevy Trailblazer. Upon arriving at the scene, local firefighters professionally extinguished the fire in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart, but only after the fire had spread to a second adjacent car. There was significant damage to both automobiles. When authorities in Oswego did a post-fire investigation they found a heavily charred e-cig in the center console, which supported the belief that the device caused the fire.

This instance of an e-cig explosion is the first to occur in the state of Illinois but is one of 77 e-cig-related explosions to be reported this year so far. This current number exceeds the totals from 2014 and 2015, with each year’s total being 47 and 38, respectively. This large increase in explosions seems to coincide with the devices’ increased popularity among consumers.

As reported by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the lithium-ion batteries in most cases are the culprit of the explosions. The voltage in the battery can overload, in many instances while charging, and potentially cause an explosion. These explosions have been reported to not only cause property damage but serious injury to the users as well. Typical injuries include severe burns, cuts, lacerations, and in some cases, victims have sustained impaired vision, temporary blindness, and or mutilated limbs.

Attorney Marc Freund of Lipsig, Shapey, Manus, & Moverman supports the notion that retailers and manufacturers have a shared responsibility to provide warnings to potential e-cigarette consumers. Attorney Freund is currently offering all e-cigarette explosion victims a free legal consultation so that they may evaluate their legal options. Freund notes that some victims may be entitled to financial compensation.

To request additional information on electronic cigarette explosions, or to ask questions, please contact Attorney Marc Freund of Lipsig, Shapey, Manus & Moverman by calling 877-711-9545.

Personal Injury Lawyer Urges Regulators For Additional Safety Regulations, Following Tallahassee Construction Accident

July 22, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on a story that appeared on WCTV.com about 2 workers that suffered work-related injuries while performing their duties at Doak Campbell Stadium, which is the home of the Florida State Seminoles Football Team. The stadium has been under construction for 9 months. The June 13th incident, as reported by a Florida State University Police Major, occurred when material being cut on an elevated surface fell to the ground injuring the 2 workers, who did not experience any life-threatening injuries. They were very fortunate to not have been seriously injured.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has reported that in 2014 there were approximately 3 million workers who fell ill or suffered non-fatal injuries due to their working conditions. Of those injured, 1 in 3 missed one day of work. The BLS also reports that of those that did not report to work because of non-fatal injuries or illnesses, they were absent on average of 9 working days. Last, the BLS reports that in 2014 there were almost 5,000 work-related fatalities in the country with deaths of construction workers comprising 20 percent of that total number.

Thomas Moverman of Lipsig, Shapey, Manus, & Moverman commented on the need for better safety rules and regulations for construction workers across the country. He states that construction workers have become injured more often with the injuries ranging from minor to fatal. He stated that until there is more cooperation between federal regulating agencies and the Occupational Safety & Health Agency (OSHA) to enhance worker safety, construction workers will be at a greater risk of injury and death while on the job.

Attorney Thomas Moverman and the law firm are currently offering free legal consultations to all victims of construction accident injuries. Moverman has had immense success representing individuals who have been burdened by construction accidents. For example, with Moverman’s assistance and counsel, a previous victim was granted compensation of $2,500,000 following a ladder fall that left the victim with a fractured leg and severely wounded back.

For more information on construction injuries, or for a consultation, contact an attorney with Lipsig, Shapey, Manus & Moverman at (646)-846-4496.

Stork’s Nest Child Academy Aim to help at Risk Children with Summer Food Drive

July 22, 2016 – – Sherry Bowry, the Education Coordinator from the Storks Nest Child Academy in Warwick, Rhode Island, is calling on all student parents and local businesses to dig deep and get involved in this year’s Summer Food Drive for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.

“We do a summer food drive each summer for the RI Food Bank. Since schools are not in session, the need for food assistance to the community is greater than ever. Many of us don’t know what it is like to go hungry or not know what it feels like to not be able to feed our children. I feel it is important to give back where ever we can and work together all 3 schools to try to make a difference,” said Sherry Bowry.

“This year I have a helper doing the drive,” mentioned Bowry. “Her name is Hannah. She attends Cranston West High School. She was actually my kindergarten student 11 years ago. She has been hand designing the posters for each school and will deliver the boxes and posters to the sites the beginning of next week. Families are asked to donate non perishable items such as peanut butter, tuna, etc. Anything makes a difference.”

Hannah added, “We need to come together and make access to food a priority. You can do that by helping support this year’s Summer Food Drive. No child should go hungry.” Hannah is 15.

The Summer Food Drive will run from July 25th to August 12th. Those who would like to get involved and help ensure local families and young children have enough food and are not left hungry are asked to please stop into any one of the three Stork’s Nest Child Academy locations with donations.

NYC Crane Collapse Kills One, Wounds Several Others, As Personal Injury Lawyer Encourages Proposed Crane Safety Regulations

July 22, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on a 500-foot crane collapse that occurred on February 5th in Tribeca in New York City that killed 1 pedestrian and injured others. After the collapse, a proposal was put forth by a local panel of technical experts urging the installation of black boxes equipped with anemometers that measure wind speeds, as reported by the Wall Street Journal. All cranes owned by the city would have a unit installed. This proposal came shortly after officials in New York City banned crane usage when wind speeds in excess of 20 miles per hour were present.

LipsigLawyers.com’s Thomas Moverman supports the proposal. He sees it as a first good step toward helping to reduce construction worker deaths and better ensuring their safety. He is hopeful that other cities across the United States will begin to pass similar proposals and equip cranes with the black box wind monitoring devices.

The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) is a federal agency that is tasked with improving worker health and safety in the United States. The agency is equipped with 2,200 safety inspectors in 10 regional offices and 90 local area offices. The agency is responsible for the well-being of over 130 million workers spread over 8 million worksites, translating into a staggering 59,000 workers per safety inspector.

It should also be noted that OSHA, with the assistance of the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), has stated that in 2014 there were over 4,800 workers killed on the job. Of those, 1 out of 5 are estimated to be construction workers.

Lipsig, Shapey, Manus & Moverman have been representing victims of construction accidents for years. In one case, Attorney Thomas Moverman won a victim $2.6 million for a worker who injured his knee and back in a fall from defective scaffolding. The firm has successfully obtained millions in settlements for those victims and strongly believes in fighting for the compensation victims need and deserve. Lipsig, Shapey, Manus & Moverman is currently looking to assist those individuals who have been injured in a construction accident and qualifying individuals may be entitled to financial compensation.
