I started my business in the hopes that one day I could get it rolling and own a few locations. Now, I’m opening up my third location in the last four years, and well, it’s good because there is a lot of work.” Mr. Stevens also said that only 13 years ago he nearly had to file for bankruptcy, and barely made it through what he called “a very rough patch.”

According to the Bureau of Labor statistics the annual average spending in Austin was largely made up by housing, generating just under 32% of the total spending done in the last year. This kind of spending has obviously created a large economical trough for a multitude of construction related jobs to pull from.

Austin also shows no signs of slowing down its growth in the near future, as the city ranked 8th in the U.S. Census Bureau’s information on the fastest growing cities in the United States. This is also interesting, considering the first ranked city, Georgetown, is just 20 minutes north of Austin. Pflugerville, which is also a short distance from Austin, also made the list.

This correlation will obviously keep breeding a solid competitive environment for the construction industry in the greater Austin area metro. With Austin city leaders meeting at the beginning of the year to discuss plans to help the city grow, it’s a safe bet there is a lot of interest from builders and developers alike. Mayor Adler stated in a press conference that it was the first such plan in decades. This comes in a much-needed time, as the population boom met heads with the transit problems of Highway 1 and Interstate 35 early on. If the city can manage to resolve that situation, then there would be little to no reason that the city could not keep growing at an exponential rate. With the top tech companies like Facebook and Google moving to Austin, it would be hard to think the need for extravagant homes would cease to exist. That’s good news for people like David Stevens and his crew.

Mayor Adler also said that things like rewriting land development code and helping push projects forward were also a strong priority within the discussion. Keeping projects operating in a timely and efficient manner will be of the utmost priority according to the city council leaders, and will help ensure tax payer money is used to benefit the Austin community. Housing affordability and scarcity are also on the agenda for discussion.

(NASDAQ: MRDN, MRDNW) (“Meridian Waste” or the “Company”), a vertically integrated, non-hazardous solid waste services company, today announced the closing of its previously announced underwritten public offering of 3,000,000 shares of common stock and warrants to purchase 3,112,871 shares of common stock, including 112,871 warrants sold pursuant to the partial exercise of the underwriters’ over-allotment option. Each unit containing one share of common stock and one warrant to purchase one share of common stock are offered at a combined public offering price of $4.13 per unit. The shares of common stock and the warrants were listed on the NASDAQ Capital Market under the symbols MRDN and MRDNW, respectively, on January 25, 2017.

Meridian Waste Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Jeff Cosman, participated in the offering by purchasing $1,250,000 of units of common stock and Warrants at the public offering price of $4.13 per unit.

The aggregate gross proceeds to Meridian Waste from the public offering were approximately $12,390,000 prior to deducting underwriting discounts, commissions and other estimated offering expenses.

Meridian Waste intends to use the net proceeds from the public offering for capital expenditures including additional trucks and equipment to service recently awarded business, tuck-in acquisitions, repayment of indebtedness and working capital.
