2nd Annual Race for the DREAM 5K Walk/Run is Coming

August 30, 2017 – Davison, MI – Ireland’s Dream is pleased to announce that registration for their 2nd Annual Race for the DREAM 5K Walk/Run is now open on Active.com. This race has some unique features not seen in other similar races. Participants are encouraged to run in their pajamas, and can even win a prize for the best pajamas! Medals will be awarded in multiple categories. They are also the creators of the exclusive Cerebral Palsy Swagger, where those participants with cerebral palsy, and their caregivers, open the race activities with their own walk/run. It is truly inspiring for all those who attend! The race is slated for September 16th, at the Jack Abernathy Park in Davison, MI. Start time is 11am.

Cerebral palsy is a common movement disorder caused by brain damage at birth. Cerebral palsy is the single most common childhood disability. It affects about 500,000 children in the United States, according to cerebralpalsy.org. Children with cerebral palsy often have difficulty gaining access to therapies that significantly improve their quality of life, such as hyperbaric oxygen therapy, stem cell therapy, ScoliSMART scoliosis therapy, Cuevas Medek therapy, and neurofeedback therapies. Since health insurances typically do not cover these therapies, many families cannot afford such treatment. Ireland’s Dream, a local 501c(3) nonprofit organization, is dedicates to raising money to help children with cerebral palsy gain access to such therapies.

Ireland’s Dream was founded by Dr. Megan Strauchman, a local physician and mother to a daughter with cerebral palsy. According to Dr. Strauchman, “many patients and their families cannot find or afford the therapies that seem to help most. Moreover, Ireland’s Dream helps families find the financial means to receive such treatments, through grants, donations, and less-known health insurances.” The ultimate goal of Ireland’s Dream is to build an independent medical center where all of these therapies may be received under one roof, where people can receive these treatments for little or no out-of-pocket cost.

For more information on the Race for the DREAM, or for more info on how you can help Ireland’s Dream, you can contact Dr. Megan Strauchman at info@irelandsdream.com. You can also visit their website, irelandsdream.com, or their Facebook page at facebook.com/irelandsdream.

Law students can now apply for The John W. Walker III Scholarship

August 30, 2017 – The Law Office of Evan W. Walker is awarding any current 1L, 2L, or 3L a $1500 scholarship for books and a 20-minute a week mentoring session for the Spring 2018 semester. The scholarship is called The John W. Walker III Scholarship.

Applicants must be enrolled in law school and submit proof of enrollment. Applicants must also submit a 1-page essay on the following topic: Actions Have Consequences.

Evan W. Walker, a solo attorney, wants to see law students graduate with less debt and be prepared to practice law. With the scholarship he intends to help the recipient reach both goals.

Evan graduated with over $100,000 in law school debt. He knows firsthand the crushing nature of debt.

After graduating law school in New Orleans as part of the “Hurricane Katrina Class,” Evan worked for insurance defense firms and insurance companies to pay off his law school loans. Once the debt was paid off, he opened his own practice in San Diego, California and began representing people who have personal injury or property damage claims.

One purpose behind the scholarship, therefore, is to help offset the crushing burden of law school debt. Another purpose is to mentor the recipient as he or her struggles with the pressure and stress of law school. Evan also wants to give the recipient a realistic idea of practicing law, especially as a solo attorney. His hope is that the recipient will be better prepared to practice law upon graduation.

The scholarship is named after Evan’s father. December 5, 2017, is the deadline. Recipients will be chosen and notified by January 5, 2018.

Train Your Brain.. One Fart At A Time! Improve Memory In The Most Hilarious Way Possible

August 30, 2017 – Pure Fusion Media is proud to announce the launch of Burp, Belch & Fart, now available for Free on the App Store. Why should memory training have to be boring? A hilarious new app called Burp, Belch & Fart uses a variety of bodily sounds – burping, farting, belching, sneezing and snorting – with silly animated characters to help users exercise their memory and build concentration with this fast-paced, addictive game.

Burp, Belch & Fart is similar to the enormously popular 1970s electronic party game Simon where players must remember specific sequences of tones and lights with increasing speed and complexity then tap the correct buttons to recall the sequence. The absurd twist of bodily sounds in Burp, Belch & Fart makes this farcical app both funny and addictive, for kids of all ages. There are unlimited levels, AND BONUS POWERUP POINTS FOR CLICKING RAPIDLY, available as the gameplay advances, making Burp, Belch & Fart always a challenge.

“Who doesn’t love a good fart joke?” said app DESIGNER (or CREATOR) David Litwin. “STUDIES HAVE SHOWN that the best way for children to improve their memory is through seamlessly integrating laughter with memory patterns to advance their skillset. I designed the app to be both entertaining and fun and used by millions of users. Of course, you may want to keep the volume down in public.”

Burp, Belch & Fart adds in a healthy dose of cultural satire. A few of the absurd characters include “Backyard Bob,” everyone’s nightmare neighbor; “Selfie Sasha,” the narcissistic teenager, and “Dejon,” the wannabe gangsta rapper.

For more information on the game including FAQ, screenshots and video demos please visit the App Store or www.burpbelchandfart.com.

Car Accident Lawyers Provide Update On Mobile Phone Laws in Queensland

MacDonnells Law offers a reminder to motorists about the use of mobile phones while driving in Queensland and prohibitions on the use of smart phones.

Cairns City QLD – August 30, 2017 /MarketersMedia/

MacDonnells Law and Lisa Jensz are pleased to announce their release of legislation information about the use of smart phones by motorists. Detailed descriptions of the laws related to mobile phone use are provided as a service to their clients and to other motorists.

Smartphone ownership across Australia has grown considerably over the past five years, with 84% of Australians now owning a smartphone. While smartphones have the ability to enhance lives in many ways they also have the potential to distract drivers and cause havoc on the roads. According to a study in 2016, 1 in 10 people use their smartphone while driving, despite the fact that using a phone while driving is illegal. Taking one’s eyes off the road to read a text, google an address or answer a call can put the lives of the driver, passengers and other road users at risk.

A spokesperson for the legal firm explained, “Don’t use your phone while driving; it is against the law. In Queensland, it is illegal to use a mobile phone while driving. This means that you cannot hold the phone next to your ear when driving. It is against the law to use your mobile phone even if stopped in traffic. Use of your phone even includes turning your phone on or off. It even includes reading or sending a text message. The restrictions on mobile phone use do not include the use of a two-way radio.”

The legislation allows for answering calls and talking on the phone provided the car has hands-free or Bluetooth capability. Most new cars come with this technology fitted as standard, however, even older model cars can be fitted with hands-free technology.”

“You cannot simply answer your mobile phone using your hand and put your phone on loudspeaker” says the lawyer. “This would be considered using your mobile phone and is against the law. If you do break the law you can be required to pay a fine and you will have demerit points recorded against your licence. Double demerits can apply for multiple offenders.”

The representative continues with specific elements of the law:

The rules for Learners and P Platers

When drivers are just getting the hang of using roads in Queensland, their full attention must be on the roads. For that reason, learner drivers and P1 provisional drivers under age 25 are not allowed to use hands-free, Bluetooth function, wireless headsets or a mobile phone’s loudspeaker function. Passengers in a car being driven by a learner driver or P1 provisional driver are not allowed to use the loudspeaker function on a mobile phone while in the car.

The rules for Smartwatches

Technology is advancing at such a pace that it is difficult for Queensland road rules to keep up. The Queensland road rules make use of a mobile phone while driving illegal, however the road rules do not specifically define the term ‘mobile phone’. Smartwatches essentially have the same functions as a mobile device and have the same potential for driver distraction. It is likely that if a Queensland driver was caught using a smartwatch, he or she would be subject to the same penalties as would be assessed if caught using a mobile phone. Other states in Australia have already made changes to their laws to regulate use of smart devices such as smartwatches.

Segway Rules

A Segway is considered a personal mobility device and it is illegal to use a mobile phone while operating a Segway. That means no selfies while using a Segway.

Mobile Phones and Motorbikes usage rules

In Queensland, it is illegal to operate a mobile phone using the hands while riding a motorcycle. It is against the law to use the mobile phone even if stopped in traffic while on the motorcycle.

Cycling and Texting or Talking rules

In Queensland, it is illegal to operate a mobile phone using while riding a bicycle. This also means that the cyclist cannot hold the phone next to the ear when cycling. It is against the law to use the mobile phone even if stopped in traffic while on the bicycle. If cyclists are caught using a mobile phone while riding a bicycle, they can be fined the same amount as a motorist (for the same offence) but since a licence is not required to ride a bicycle, the infraction will not cause the accumulation of demerit points.

Tips – Mobile Phone Safety on Roads is Important

Texting, using apps and talking on the phone while driving is illegal in Queensland. Some road users find it hard to follow these rules. Drivers need to set some boundaries so that following the rules becomes a good habit:

 If the driver is doing the wrong thing by using a mobile phone the passengers should ask the driver to refrain. Passenger safety is more important than anything that is being said or done on a mobile phone while driving.

 Consider using an app specifically designed to prevent drivers from being distracted by their phones when driving. There are many of these apps available to download (when not driving of course!).

 Perhaps put the mobile phone in a bag on the back seat of the car. That way if the phone rings or beeps, there is no temptation to grab it.

 Talk to friends and family members about their habits on the road. Having an open discussion about how accidents can happen when someone is distracted can be a good way to think clearly about how one moment of inattention can change someone else’s life forever.

Sew Vac Direct and Doug Carpenter are pleased to announce the implementation of a program which provides select sewing machines to worthy organizations public and private. The purpose of the donation program is to act as a positive role model and friend of the community. The provision of sewing machines fosters goodwill and helps to promote the love of sewing. According to a representative of Sew Vac, “Thank you for your submissions suggesting organizations which would be helped by the donation of sewing machines. In response to the submission of names, we were able to donate seventy Luova sewing machines to several organizations. We are happy to have been able to assist in spreading the love of sewing. Our website provides an image of one of the groups that received machines as part of the donation program.”
