The Max McElhaney Memorial Educational Scholarship was founded in 2015 in honor of Rocky McElhaney’s late uncle, Max McElhaney. With an MBA from the Wharton School and a resume that included marketing management positions and consulting roles at multiple large corporations, Ms. Schlitt already had an extensive business background when she first decided to start her own company. But she has acknowledged she didn’t have a long-term vision at the outset of VSA, “or even a short-term vision.”

“VSA started simply as an idea and has grown to become a presence,” she says. “A presence in our community, in each of our employee’s lives, and across the country within our industry.”

Ms. Schlitt was quick to share the credit with her co-workers—past and present—during the 20th anniversary celebration.
