Defense options can also focus on whether a drug found in your home or car was known about, or is even yours. For example, if you share car ownership or drive people around, that could be one avenue to cast reasonable doubt on the evidence.

He added: “If evidence is solely based on confidential informants, then under the Sixth Amendment, you have a right to confront your accusers in court. That could be a key point of leverage if the prosecution opts to keep their informants anonymous.”

He concluded: “Seeking out an attorney skilled and experienced in drug trafficking charges and trials is of key importance. That should be done immediately so that they can get the ball rolling with a view to lessening the charge and its impact, and/or asserting your innocence from the start.”
