3. Mixed Effects Model

The mixed-effects model (Type III) contains both fixed-effects and random-effects experimental factors, with appropriate differences in the interpretation and analysis of the two types.

The fixed model focuses mainly on the estimation and comparison of effect values, while the random model focuses on the estimation and testing of effect variances. Since the first discovery of brewer’s yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae)-derived Kex2 protease (SCKex2) in the Thorner lab in 1984, researchers have studied the enzymatic properties and industrial applications of SCKex2 in detail. It was found that SCKex2 is capable of performing precursor cleavage not only in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, but also in Pichia pastoris and mammalian cells, which recognizes cleavage sites in precursor proteins and processes them to produce active proteins. In addition, reports have been presented by researchers regarding the structural properties and mechanism of action of the SCKex2 protease. Currently, the expression of SCKex2 using B. birchii has been commercialized as a tool enzyme.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Foundation hosted its annual “Lunch with the Sheriff” Benefit on Tuesday at the Red Rock Casino, Resort & Spa. The event started in 2016 with over 100 guests uniting to show their support for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and Sheriff Joe Lombardo. This tradition continues annually, as community leaders step forward each year in support of the LVMPD Foundation.

 This year, Antonio Accornero was recognized for his long-standing support of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, and he was awarded the distinction of being honored as a Founding Member of the prestigious 100 Club. “100” signifies the call sign for the LVMPD Sheriff, and membership to the 100 Club is only offered to generous donors who invest in public safety annually. “It’s an honor to be recognized today, but the true credit goes to the men and women of Metro for the important work they do and the sacrifices they make to protect and serve our community,” said Accornero. “I am always here to support our police department.”

 As in years past, this year’s luncheon featured equipment and technology exhibits from multiple law enforcement units within the LVMPD and provided an exciting and interactive experience for the attendees who met with officers and learned more about their latest advancements in public safety. The event has been designed to continue to develop stronger relationships between the community and officers, allowing participants to get to know their LVMPD heroes in uniform and learn more about how they work to keep the community safe each and every day.
